India's top singles badminton players continued their terrific run at the Super 500 event.
It was yet another mixed day for India at the ongoing Korea Open 2022. Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth are through to the semi-finals of the tournament.
On the other hand, the doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have been knocked out of the contest. Let us have a look at how the day passed for the Indian players:
Sindhu defeats Ongbamrungphan in straight games
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu was up against Thailand's Busanan Ongbamrungphan. The former enjoys an impressive head-to-head record against her opponent and continued her top form in the match quarter-finals of the Korea Open too.
Sindhu outshone her opponent with a clinical display, winning the match in straight games 21-10, 21-16. With this win, Sindhu advanced to the semi-finals and registered her second-best appearance at the Korea Open. She had previously won the tournament in 2017.
The former world champion will now be facing An Se-young of South Korea to book a place in the final of the tournament.
Srikanth registers a dominant display against Son Wan Ho
Former World No.1 Kidambi Srikanth came through in a scintillating battle against South Korea’s Son Wan-ho in three games 21-12, 18-21, 21-19. Srikanth, having already won silver at the World Championships 2021, was playing his second consecutive quarterfinal after the Swiss Open.
He will now be up against Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie in the semi-finals of the Korea Open. The Indian shuttler would look to win his long-awaited Super 500 title on the World Tour.
Kang and Seo cut short Satwik and Chirag’s journey
Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty ended their run at the Korea Open after losing to home favourites Kang Min-hyuk and Seo Seung-jae. The duo lost a thrilling encounter 20-22, 21-18, 20-22 in three games.
The Indian pair was leading in the decider but an outstanding comeback by the Korean pair led to an unexpected upset as well as an exit for them.
