Malaysia's Pearly Tan & Thinaah Muralitharan qualify for BWF World Tour Finals 2025 after Arctic Open title

Malaysian women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan & Thinaah Muralitharan have become the latest WD duo to secure their spot in season-ending BWF World Tour Finals 2025. Pearly/Thinaah booked their place after winning the Arctic Open last week.
The BWF Super 500 event wrapped up on October 12, Sunday in Vantaa, Finland, with thrilling and historic performances that shook up the race to the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 across all categories.
Malaysia’s top women’s doubles duo Pearly Tan & Thinaah Muralitharan showed their class once again, defeating Japan’s Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi in straight games, 21-7, 21-9. This victory marked their second title of the season, following their Thailand Open win in May.
The Arctic Open win also propelled them to the top spot in the race to the BWF World Tour Finals 2025, securing their qualification for the season-ending event set to take place from December 17 to 21 in Hangzhou, China
Given that, the Malaysian star also extended their head-to-head record against the Japanese pair to six wins in eight encounters.

Pearly-Thinaah duo recently made history earlier in the year by becoming the first Malaysian women’s doubles team to reach the BWF World Championships final, securing a silver medal.
In women’s doubles, the other two pairs who have qualified for the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 are Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian, and Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning.
On the other hand, England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy who clinched the men’s doubles title in Finland, defeating Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik with 21-18, 25-27, 21-17 also witnessed rise in their ranking.
The hard-fought victory not only marked their first BWF Super 500 title but also boosted their world ranking by three spots, moving them up to 12th. However, they are yet to fight more in order to enter the BWF finals race.

In the women’s singles, Akane Yamaguchi put on a masterclass in the final, topping it off with straight games win over Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan. Her stellar run propelled her back into the world’s top three and also handed the qualification for the BWF finals.
Yamaguchi becomes only the third player to qualify for the season-ending event joining the World no. 1 An Se-Young and the world no. 2 Wang Zhi Yhi of China.
Meanwhile, it was youth vs experience in the men’s singles final at Arctic Open as veteran Chou Tien-chen defeated top-seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn with a final score of 21-11, 13-21, 21-19 in a grueling 77-minute match.
However, Chou Tien-chen, who is currently ranked fifth in the world, didn’t improve is world ranking after the victory in Finland but now leads the race to qualify for the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 in men’s singles. So far, only Shi Yuqi has secured qualification in this category.
In the mixed doubles, the Malaysian pair of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei and Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran of Thailand have qualified for the BWF Finals 2025.
