Sen and Shetty will meet in an all-Indian QF clash.
India saw mixed fortunes at the BWF Australian Open 2025 on November 20, with men’s singles stars Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty storming into the quarter-finals, while seasoned shuttlers HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth bowing out.
In men’s doubles, India’s top-ranked pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty kept the title hopes alive by securing a spot in the last eight.
The top-seeded Indian duo put on a dominant show in their Round of 16 match, beating the World No.50 pair of Ching Heng and Wu Guan Xun 21-18, 21-11.
The match was not all smooth as Satwik-Chirag was trailing 9-15 in the first game, however, they quickly shifted gears with quick rallies to turn it around and take the opener.
The second game stayed close until 14-all, but a quick five-point burst from the Indian duo sealed control of the game and wrapped up the match in just 37 minutes.
With this win, Satwik–Chirag enter their ninth quarterfinal of the 2025 season and now prepare to face Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.
Speaking of India’s top men’s singles shuttler Lakshya Sen, he earned a well-deserved place in the quarter-finals that marked his seventh appearance in the last eight which is the most in a single season in his career.
In a three-game battle against Chinese Taipei’s Chi Yu Jen. Sen started strong winning the first game 21–17 but Chi came back strongly in the second to level the match.

The Indian shuttler, however, showed great composure under pressure, regrouping quickly to dominate the decider and close out the contest 21–13 after 63 minutes of high-quality badminton.
The win carried extra satisfaction for Sen, who avenged his Malaysia Open loss earlier this year, where an inconsistent performance saw him exit in the first round with a 14–21, 7–21 defeat.
Sen will now face his Indian compatriot Ayush Shetty, who is coming on the back of straight games 21-17, 21-16 win over World No. 9 Kodai Naraoka, in the quarter-final.
The 68-minute match saw Shetty edge ahead from 18–17 in the first game and finishing the second with a sharp five-point burst after Naraoka tried to break his rhythm at 14-all and make it to his sixth quarterfinal of the year.
On the other hand, India’s campaign took a hit in men’s singles as seasoned shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy bowed out in the Round of 16.
Former World No. 1, Srikanth, opened his campaign with a hard-fought three-game win over Lee Chia-hao, showing flashes of his old brilliance in a 21–19, 19–21, 21–15 victory. However, he couldn’t carry the momentum forward, falling to Japan’s Shogo Ogawa 20–22, 16–21 in the next round.
Prannoy followed a similar pattern. After a slow start in his opener against Yohanes Saut Marcellyno, he bounced back strongly to claim the next two games 6–21, 21–12, 21–17 and move into the Round of 16.
But against former junior world champion Alwi Farhan, Prannoy struggled to find rhythm, going down 19–21, 10–21 to end his run in the pre-quarterfinals.
