Men's 5x5 team failed to make the cut for the Continental Games.
The final squad of Indian Basketball team for the upcoming quadrennial extravaganza - Asian Games 2023 - has been announced. After several changes, the Sports Ministry confirmed the final participation on September 14th (Thursday) list across two categories.
In the men's 3x3 category, three players have been replaced to the previous roster. Youngsters Sahaji Pratap Singh Sekhon, Pranav Prince and Princepal Singh are the new entrants with Lokhendra Singh retaining his spot. Lokhendra was a vital cog in the recently concluded FIBA U-18 3x3 World Cup where India won two matches against superior sides.
Pranav Prince and Sahaji Sekhon were part of FIBA Asian Olympic qualifiers which was held last month. Both players showed class with the former topping the Indian scoring chart. In the women's section, Yashneet Kaur was the only new entrant replacing Kavya Singla.
Meanwhile, a total of three women's players were replaced in the 5x5 setup. Bhandavya Mahesha, Kavitha Jose and Sahana Mohan got added to the new squad replacing Nishanthi Masilamani, Sathiya Senthilkumar and Darshini respectively. However, the men's 5x5 team failed to make the cut to the Asiad's as they were behind in the stipulated rules set by the Sport Ministry.
