Indian women’s 3×3 basketball team secured their spot in the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2024 main draw after topping their Pool in the qualifying stage. India, after defeating the Northern Mariana Islands yesterday, beat Hong Kong and Indonesia in their remaining two matches to top Pool C and advance to the main draw of the tournament.
The FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2024 finals will begin from March 29 with the Indian basketball team set to be in action a day later. India are in Pool D alongside New Zealand and Australia in the main draw of women’s division.
On the final day of the qualifying stage, India defeated Hong Kong 18-12 and Indonesia 20-13 to qualify for the main draw. Against Indonesia, Pushpa Senthil Kumar — the team’s star player — delivered a masterclass. Her two crucial one-pointers in the closing minutes of the game contributed significantly to India’s victory. Despite some nail-biting moments, the Indian team maintained a comfortable lead.
India wasted no time asserting their dominance. In the opening minute, they secured four one-pointers, leaving their opponents stunned. This rapid-fire performance set the tone for their campaign, sending a clear message to other teams in the tournament.
Earlier in the day, the Indian women’s team turned over Hong Kong in a hard-fought battle, winning 18-12 in the qualifiers of Pool C.
The Indian women’s 3×3 basketball team, champions of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup in 2013, made an impressive start on Wednesday. In their first qualifying match against the Northern Mariana Islands, Aneesha Cleetus led the charge with 11 points, propelling India to a dominant victory with a final score of 21-12.
However, the men’s team faced disappointment, falling off the cliff with a 21-9 loss to Malaysia and failed to qualify for the main draw. The men’s team showed promise in their previous matches. Yesterday, the Indian men’s team played two near-perfect games.
In their first 3×3 basketball match, they registered a comfortable 21-10 victory against the Maldives. Pranav Prince (eight points) and Sahaij Pratap Singh Sekhon (seven points) led the charge in their dominating victory.
In their second encounter, the Indian men faced Macau and emerged victorious with a scoreline of 21-13. Princepal Singh, with eight points, showcased his scoring ability, ensuring India’s dominance on the court.
