Australia claims both FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2024 titles

The FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2024 is scheduled to commence from March 27 to 31. It will be the seventh edition of the continental Championship in the International Basketball Federation’s FIBA Asia zone. The tournament will be held at OCBC Square in Singapore. 

The FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup is an esteemed international Basketball competition held in the regions of Asia and Oceania. This tournament showcases the skills and talents of Players in national teams affiliated with the International Basketball Federation’s FIBA Asia Zone, the governing body for Basketball in this continent.

The FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2024 is the top basketball tournament in Asia for 3×3 national teams and was first held in 2013 as the FIBA Asia 3×3 Championship in Doha, Qatar. In the championship there are two events, men’s and women’s. Each team has four players (3 on court, 1 bench). The match is played on a half court and every rule applies as well as a 12-second shot clock and clearance needed on a new possession.

Men’s tournament

The tournament has been won by three different national teams. Australia has been the most dominant team in the history of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup, clinching the title a total of three times. The Australian team have consistently showcased their power and speed on the court, earning them a reputation as one of the powerhouses of Basketball in Asia. While Mongolia has won the title two times & Qatar has won the title once.

Mongolia is the reigning Champion having secured their second title at the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2023 which was also held in Singapore.

India’s best performance in Men’s FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup

The Indian men’s basketball team have participated in all the editions of continental championship so far. Their best-ever performance came in first edition in 2013, where the blue cagers created history by reaching quarterfinals. Their next best performance came in 2017 edition, where they finished ninth.

Women’s tournament

The tournament has been won by four different national teams. With three titles to their name, Australia has been the most dominant team even in the women’s division. China, New Zealand and India are the other winners, having won the title once each.

Australia are the two-time defending champions, with their last title coming in the previous edition of the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2023 in Singapore.

India’s best performance in Women’s FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup

The Indian women’s basketball team’s best ever performance came in first edition in 2013, where the ladies in Blue created history by winning the first edition in 2013. Their next best performance came in the 2017 edition where they finished fourth.

When and where will FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2024 take place?

The seventh edition of the competition will take place in Singapore from 27-31 March. This marks the third time in a row that the tournament will be held in Singapore.

Men’s teams

There are total of 23 nations including hosts Singapore in this year Championship. The list of teams are — Singapore (Host), China, Mongolia, Thailand, Japan, Philippines, New Zealand, Qatar, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Northern Marina Islands, Australia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tahiti, Malaysia, India, Maldives and Macau.

Fifteen teams are in qualifying Draw and the rest eight teams have directly progressed to the Main draw.

Pool A: Chinese Taipei, Iran, Hongkong

Pool B: South Korea, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Northern Marina Islands

Pool C: Australia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tahiti

Pool D: India, Maldives, Macau, Malaysia

The Group winners from every pool will qualify for Main Draw.

Preliminary Round
