India’s women’s basketball is making a comeback on the international stage.

After a long hiatus, India’s women’s basketball is poised to make a return to the international arena. The Indian Women’s U18 3×3 basketball team has secured a spot in the 3×3 U18 World Cup.

In an unexpected turn of events, the men’s team will be absent from this year’s competition. Given their impressive silver medal performance at last year’s Asia Cup and qualification for the World Cup where they closely missed out on the knockout stages after finishing third in the group, this comes as a surprise.

India squad for FIBA Women’s 3×3 U18 World Cup 2024

  1. Aanaya Bhavsar (5’9″, Pune, Maharashtra)
  2. Gunvi Agrawal (5’9″, Indore, Madhya Pradesh)
  3. Aahana George (6’0″, Gujarat)
  4. Gunjan Mantri (5’8″, Nagpur, Maharashtra)

Aanaya Bhavsar

Bhavsar enters the tournament as a scoring phenomenon, having dominated the 74th Junior National Championship in Indore with an impressive 186 total points. Her pivotal role in Maharashtra’s Youth Nationals victory was punctuated by a remarkable double-double performance of 25 points and 25 rebounds in a single game.

An alumna of the prestigious Basketball Without Borders (BWB) program, Bhavsar’s scoring prowess and rebounding ability make her a dual threat on the court.

Gunvi Agrawal

At 17 years old, Gunvi Agrawal brings multi-level scoring and versatility to the team. Her performances in the 73rd and 74th Junior Nationals showcase her ability as a secondary scorer with a particularly strong three-point shot. Agrawal’s outside threat complements the team’s interior scoring prowess.

Beyond her shooting, she demonstrates adaptability as a ball facilitator when scoring opportunities are limited, making her a valuable asset in various game situations.

Aahana Benil George

Aahana stands tall as the team’s center and rebounding specialist. She averaged 17.7 points per game and 11.9 rebounds per game in the 73rd Jr. National. A cornerstone of Gujarat’s basketball program, she has been instrumental in a historic victory over Punjab that took them to the quarterfinals. Aahana’s ability to dominate the paint will be crucial.

Gunjan Mantri

Mantri brings versatility to the forward position. A key player in Maharashtra’s triumph at the 74th National Championship, she showcased her all-around game with averages of 12.3 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals over seven games in the 73rd Junior National Championship.

She has also represented Maharashtra in the inaugural 3×3 National Basketball Championship in Chennai. Her defensive instincts and ability to create turnovers in this 3×3 style of play.
