India are placed in group D in FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
The road to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 is officially open now, with the Asian Qualifiers starting in November 2025. Over the next fifteen months, teams will battle through six windows till March 2027.
A total of sixteen nations are competing for seven available spots in the World Cup. They earned their spot in the Asian qualifiers through their performance at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup. Although Qatar is already qualified as host, the team will still participate in the qualifiers.
India earned its spot in the Asian Qualifiers by topping its group in the final stage of the FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers 2025. The team defeated Iraq 97–77 and then beat higher-ranked Bahrain 81–77, securing qualification for the Asia Cup and one of the 16 available World Cup qualifier slots.
The teams are devided into four groups of four teams each. India are placed in Group D along with Qatar, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia. Following are the four groups for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers:
- Group A: Australia, Guam, New Zealand, and the Philippines
- Group B: Chinese Taipei, China, Japan, and Korea
- Group C: Iran, Iraq, Jordan, and Syria
- Group D: India, Qatar, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia
How will teams qualify for FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027?
In the first round, teams will meet each opponent in home-and-away fixtures within their respective groups. The top three teams from Group A, B, and C will advance to the second round.
From Group D (which includes Qatar), top two teams will advance to the second round, as Qatar automatically moves on regardless of their performance.
The second round will bring together the 12 advancing teams, who will then be divided into two groups of six. Then in the third round, with the results of earlier stages, teams will now face three new opponents in home-and-away matchups.
However, the qualification will ultimately depend on performance in this round, with the top three teams from each group earning World Cup berths.
The additional seventh spot will be awarded to the best fourth-placed team between the two groups along with Qatar.
When will the windows take place?
- 1st Window: November 24-December 2, 2025
- 2nd Window: February 23-March 3, 2026
- 3rd Window: June 29-July 7
- 4th Window: August 24-September 1
- 5th Window: November 23-December 1
- 6th Window: February 22-March 2, 2027
