‘The Notorious One’ last had a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather
In a surprising turn of events, UFC star Conor McGregor has confirmed that he will face WWE and YouTube sensation Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition match, with the event being backed by the Ambani family.
McGregor shared the announcement on social media, putting rumors to rest and revealing that he’s in preliminary talks with the Ambani’s to make the fight happen in India.
The Irish fighter wrote, “The rumors of a bout with Topurio are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon.”
While Logan Paul has yet to comment on the matchup, McGregor’s post signals that the fight is in the works, though it’s not official just yet. If it moves forward, this exhibition bout would be a significant step in McGregor’s journey back to competitive fighting, as he’s also focused on his anticipated return to the UFC.
Logan Paul’s boxing journey began in the public eye with a highly publicized amateur bout against fellow YouTuber KSI on August 25, 2018, at the Manchester Arena. The fight ended in a split draw, setting the stage for a professional rematch. On November 9, 2019, the two faced off again at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, with KSI winning via split decision after Paul was penalized for illegal punches.
Logan Paul’s bout against Floyd Mayweather
One of Paul’s most famous bouts came on June 6, 2021, when he fought legendary boxer Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition match.
While Mayweather dominated the fight, landing 43 out of 107 punches, Paul managed to land just 28 out of 217. Though the bout wasn’t officially scored, it was widely seen as a lopsided contest in favor of Mayweather.
Most recently, Paul fought Dillon Danis on October 14, 2023, at the MF & DAZN: X Series 10 – The Prime Card. Paul won the match by disqualification, earning his first official victory in professional boxing.
Conor McGregor’s recent controversy
Meanwhile, Conor McGregor’s road to recovery has been far from smooth. Recently, McGregor has been in the headlines for a s*xu*l assault case that dates back to eight years ago in Dublin, which has brought his legal troubles to the forefront.
Despite these challenges, McGregor’s focus appears to be shifting towards his return to the sport, starting with the exhibition match against Logan Paul.
Fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation of the match’s official status and whether McGregor’s potential comeback will be just as explosive as his past performances.
