Usyk won the initial match between the two heavyweights

Turki Alalshikh, head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, confirmed on Wednesday that Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will fight for the heavyweight championship again on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Alalshikh wrote in a tweet: “The rematch between the Undisputed Champion Oleksandr Usyk and the Champion Tyson Fury is now scheduled on the 21 of December 2024 during Riyadh Season…The world will watch another historical fight again… Our commitment to boxing fans continues…We hope you enjoy it.”

Usyk became the undisputed heavyweight champion when he beat Fury via split decision in their first highly awaited battle earlier this month. One judge scored the bout 114-113 for Fury but was overruled by scores of 114-113 and 115-112 for the Ukrainian.

Usyk is the first unified heavyweight champion since 1999 when Lennox Lewis fought Evander Holyfield in a rematch in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Fury suffered his first professional defeat at the hands of Usyk.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk signed for a two-fight deal

The two fighters had agreed to a two-fight agreement that included a rematch on October 12, but Alalshikh’s declaration reveals the date has been put out until the end of 2024. Fury stated in the ring following their first bout that he intends to fix his record in the rematch.

“I believe I won the fight, but I’m not going to sit here and cry and make excuses,” Fury said. “I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority of them. What can you do? We both put on a good fight, the best we could do. … People are siding with the country at war. But make no mistake, I won that fight … and I’ll be back. We’ve got a rematch clause.”

Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, stated earlier this week that he was optimistic the British fighter could turn things around in the rematch.

“I think he can, he believes he can…,” Warren told Sky Sports. “It was a fight of two halves, Tyson knows what he has to do and I’m sure Usyk does. Both of those guys were in an absolute war, that has taken a lot out of both of them. It will be interesting to see when it does happen who it has impacted the most.”
