Koneru Humpy vs Divya Deshmukh Live Streaming and Updates, FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup 2025 Final

Game 2 of Koneru Humpy vs Divya Deshmukh, FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup 2025 Final will be held On Sunday, July 27.

The battle between two Indian stars, Koneru Humpy vs Divya Deshmukh, in the FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup 2025 final is set to move into its second day on Sunday, July 27, in Batumi, Georgia. The first game, played on Saturday, ended in a draw.

Game 1 was full of thrills at the Sheraton Hotel. The two-time Women’s World Rapid Chess Champion Koneru Humpy played with the Black pieces and thus, she now holds a slight edge going into Game 2 against the 19-year-old sensation Divya Deshmukh.

Divya stunned her Indian compatriot by opening with 1.d4 instead of her usual 1.e4 and came close to winning within just 25 moves. However, Humpy opted for the Queen’s Gambit Accepted.

The game turned intense and tactical when Divya played the unusual move 7.Be2 forcing Humpy to hesitate before accepting a risky pawn. Despite this, the 38-year-old managed to level the game but she admitted afterward that it was lucky of her to secure a draw.

“I think she [Divya] was clearly better after 12.Rb1 instead of 12.Nc4. After that, I’m not sure what was going on, but it was very complicate,” Humpy told FIDE in the post match interview.

Despite Humpy’s slight edge going into Game 2 with the White pieces, if that game ends in a draw, the match will move to a tie-break on Monday, July 28. However, if the three-time Chess Olympiad gold medallist keeps up her momentum and wins Game 2, she will claim the title and $50,000 prize money with 1.5 points.

Nevertheless, no matter who wins this battle of generations –with Divya just half the age of Humpy– India is guaranteed its first-ever champion at the FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup.
