Who are medal contenders for India on Day 11 of Commonwealth Games 2022

The country is expecting more medals on the final day of the action at the games.

It has been truly a fruitful campaign for India in Commonwealth Games 2022, Birmingham with several medal contenders living up to the expectations while some others couldn’t.

Indian athletes have shown their potential in all the disciplines so far winning in weightlifting, wrestling, Athletics, boxing, table tennis among others. With the last day to go, here are the medal contenders on the Day 11 of the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Men’s Hockey – Gold Medal Match

On the last day of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, the Indian men’s hockey team will take to the field against the mighty Australians in the men’s hockey finals to fight for the gold medal.

India defeated South Africa 3-2 in the semi-final on Saturday to book a place in Monday’s final. Bronze medalists at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, India will look to give a tough fight to the Australians to finish on a high note.

Lakshya Sen – Men’s Singles Gold Medal Match – Badminton

Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen defeated The Jia Heng of Singapore to fix a meeting with Malaysia’s Tze Yong in the men’s singles gold medal match on the final day of the Birmingham CWG. Sen got the better of The Jia Heng in three sets 21-10, 18-21, 21-16.

PV Sindhu – Women’s Singles Gold Medal Match – Badminton

All eyes will be on star Indian shuttler and two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu when she will compete on Monday against Michelle Li of Canada in the women’s singles gold medal match.

Sindhu reached the women’s singles final with a straight-game win over Yeo Jia Min of Singapore. PV Sindhu defeated Yeo Jia Min 21-19, 21-17. This is Sindhu’s second Commonwealth Games final in a row. She won silver at the Rio Olympics 2016, while she clinched bronze in Tokyo.

Achanta Sharath Kamal - Men's Singles Gold Medal Match - Table Tennis

Achanta Sharath Kamal reached the finals of the men’s singles table tennis event on Sunday. He defeated England's Paul Drinkhall 4-2 (11-8, 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8) to make it to the gold medal clash.

He will now face Liam Pitchford in the finals. Pitchford defeated S. Gnanasekaran 4-1 in the semi-final. A Sharath Kamal won a bronze medal in the men's singles event in Gold Coast and now would want to finish on high by clinching gold.

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran - Men's Singles Bronze Medal Match- Table Tennis

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran will play in the men's singles bronze medal match on Monday. It could have been an all-India final in the men's singles Table Tennis final but it was not to be as he was defeated by Liam Pitchford 4-1. Now he will face Paul Drinkhall to fight for bronze.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty - Men's Doubles Badminton Gold Medal Match

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the final of the men's doubles Badminton. They will now face up Ben Lane and Sean Vendu of England in Monday's final. They defeated the Malaysian duo of Chan Peng Soon and Tan Kian Meng 2-0 (21-6, 21-15).

This is their second straight CWG final. In the Gold Coast Games, they had to satisfy with silver after facing defeat from the english pair of Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge.
