National record holder Murali Sreeshankar will be competing for a medal.

It was an enriching Day 6 for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022, Birmingham. India are currently sitting in sixth position with 14 medals now. After six days of competition, India has five gold as many silver and four bronze. The strong performance of Indian athletes has bagged them the rewards, where the Indian women’s lawn bowls team brought gold. In other events, the men’s table tennis team clinched gold, while the mixed badminton team bagged silver.

Long Jump

Murali Sreeshankar – Men’s Long Jump finals

India will have high hopes from the young Murali Sreeshankar when he will walk into the athletics arena on Day 7 to compete in the men’s long jump finals at the Commonwealth Games day 7. Murali is the national record holder, who topped the men’s long jump qualification round to storm into the finals. He was the only athlete who breached the automatic qualification mark of 8m, with an opening round effort of 8.05m in Group A.

Sreeshankar has recently finished seventh in World Championships in Eugene, USA. He has a season’s and personal best of 8.36m.

Muhammad Anees Yahiya – Men’s Long Jump finals

Sreeshankar partner in the men’s long jump final will be his friend Muhammed Anees Yahiya on Thursday. Yahiya finished third in Group B qualification with his best jump of 7.68m.

He has a season’s and personal best of 8.15m. The 26-year old has been one of the top performers in the Indian domestic athletics and would look to surprise all when he will go head to head against the best athletes of the sport.
