India will play Australia in their first match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

India have announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, a historic event as India will hosts the tournament entirely for the first time. The squad announcement occurred during a press conference in Kandy, where Indian team are currently competing in Asia Cup 2023. Prominent figures like captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar were present.

Notably, players like Tilak Varma, Prasidh Krishna, and Sanju Samson from Asia Cup squad have been left out. After clearing fitness tests, KL Rahul is in, while Yuzvendra Chahal has been left out. The spin department will rely on Kuldeep Yadav and all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Suryakumar Yadav got another ODI chance, and Shardul Thakur's batting skills earned him a spot. The team, led by Rohit Sharma, will aim to end India's ICC trophy drought.

Over the past year or two, India have been trying out new players, particularly young talents who have performed impressively in domestic cricket. This experimentation has led to several players making their debuts in the One-Day International (ODI) format. Now, let's take a closer look at those players who made their ODI debuts after 2022 but were not selected for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 squad.

1 - Venkatesh Iyer:

Venkatesh Iyer had his first taste of ODI action on January 19, 2022, when India faced South Africa in Paarl. Unfortunately, his debut innings saw him scoring only two runs. Since then, he has featured in just two ODIs, amassing a total of 24 runs. However, with Hardik Pandya's return to the team and his appointment as the vice-captain, Iyer found himself on the sidelines.

2 - Deepak Hooda:

Deepak Hooda made his ODI debut on February 6, 2022, against West Indies in Ahmedabad. In his debut match, he scored an unbeaten 26 runs. As of now, he has participated in 10 ODIs and has accumulated a total of 153 runs. Although he was in the 2022 T20 World Cup squad, it's important to mention that Hooda's performance declined, leading to his exclusion from the ODI squad too.

3 - Avesh Khan:

Avesh Khan made his ODI debut against West Indies on July 24, 2022, in Port of Spain. In that match, he bowled six overs and conceded 54 runs without taking any wickets. As of now, he has played in five ODIs and has managed to take three wickets. Avesh faced challenges in delivering strong performances when given chances and, as a result, found himself out of contention for selection.

Ruturaj Gaikwad made his ODI debut on October 6, 2022, against South Africa in Lucknow. In his debut match, he scored 19 runs. As of now, he has played in only two matches and has scored a total of 27 runs. While Ruturaj has shown promise with his performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the presence of an in-form Shubman Gill in the ODI squad has led to his exclusion from recent selections. Ruturaj Gaikwad will be seen next leading Indian side in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

5 - Ravi Bishnoi:

Ravi Bishnoi made his ODI debut on October 6, 2022, in the match against South Africa in Lucknow. In his debut game, he took 1 wicket for 69 runs in 8 overs. However, since his debut, he has not been part of any matches in the ODI format. Ravi Bishnoi has excelled in the IPL, but his performance in ODI hasn't been as strong. He is a part of India's T20I setup.

Despite getting chances, he hasn't been able to perform at his best.

Umran Malik, recognised as one of the fastest bowlers India has ever produced, made his ODI debut on November 25, 2022, during the 1st ODI against New Zealand in Auckland. In that match, he bowled 10 overs and claimed two wickets while conceding 66 runs. As of now, he has participated in 10 ODIs and taken a total of 13 wickets. Umran Malik has struggled to make a positive impact in ODI matches, often proving to be expensive with the ball, which has left selectors unimpressed.

9 - Kuldeep Sen:

However, since his debut, he has not played in any ODIs up to the present moment. Kuldeep Sen currently finds himself on the sidelines mainly due to the presence of a strong pace bowling unit in the Indian squad. This unit includes renowned names such as Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, and Shardul.

10 - Mukesh Kumar:
