Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their 18-year wait for their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title as they defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final of IPL 2025 in Ahmedabad on June 3 to become champions.

After winning the toss, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer chose to bowl first. Virat Kohli top-scored for RCB with 43, while PBKS’s disciplined bowling attack controlled the innings effectively. Other notable contributions came from Liam Livingstone (25), Rajat Patidar (26), and both Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal, who scored 24 each.

Kyle Jamieson and Arshdeep Singh stood out for PBKS, each picking up three wickets.

Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh couldn’t provide their usual explosive start. Josh Inglis brought momentum with a quickfire 39 off 23 balls, while Arya (24) and Prabhsimran (26) showed grit at the crease.

However, RCB’s bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths to keep PBKS’s power-hitters in check. Despite that, PBKS ended with 184/7 in 20 overs, thanks largely to Shashank Singh’s unbeaten 61*, which featured six sixes and three fours. RCB’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya took two wickets apiece.

RCB emerged victorious by six runs to clinch their maiden IPL title in 2025. Jubilant scenes followed as Virat Kohli and the RCB squad celebrated their first IPL trophy in eighteen years.

Phil Salt and Suyash Sharma become two-time IPL champions

Two of the RCB squad members, England’s Phil Salt and uncapped Suyash Sharma, became two-time IPL champions. They had previously won IPL 2024 with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy.

However, KKR released both players, and RCB bought them at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Both Salt and Suyash played a huge role in RCB’s IPL 2025 win. Salt, opening the innings for RCB, made 403 runs in 13 games with four fifties at a strike rate of 175.38. He gave the impetus to the RCB innings, allowing Virat Kohli to play the anchor role at the other end.

On the other hand, Suyash Sharma, often playing as an impact substitute, took eight wickets in 14 IPL games, with best bowling figures of 3/17 and an economy rate of 8.84. He might not have picked big wickets, but he kept one end quiet with Krunal Pandya doing the rest at the other end.
