Spanish football club Real Madrid tops the list.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) recorded the third-highest interactions among some of the most popular sports teams on the social media giant Facebook in April 2023. The two-time champions registered 19.4 million interactions on the social media platform.

The 19.4 million interactions are only the third-highest behind football clubs in Real Madrid and Manchester City. The two other football clubs FC Barcelona and Manchester United make up the final two in this list with 17.2 and 15.9 million, respectively. Real Madrid occupies the top spot with 25.9 interactions.

The Knight Riders, owned by Shahrukh Khan and Red Chillies Entertainment, arguably started as a very popular franchise since IPL's inception. KKR also started the tournament by smashing 223 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, headlined by Brendon McCullum's 158. Later, they won by 140 runs.

KKR languishing at the bottom of the table in IPL 2008:

Meanwhile, Kolkata's performances haven't been consistent enough in the current season, winning only three out of nine games this year. Hence, their chances of reaching playoffs look slim in IPL 2023. Kolkata's season started with a seven-run loss to the Punjab Kings and bounced back with consecutive wins against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans.

However, it resulted in four more losses before a 21-run win against RCB. KKR's sixth defeat of the edition came against the Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens. The two-time champions are currently battling with the SunRisers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Batting first, Nitish Rana and Co. managed 171 on the board as Rinku Singh top-scored with 46, while the skipper followed it up with 42 runs.
