MS Dhoni: The untold story to re-release in cinemas on May 12

The movie based on the life of the former Indian Captain features the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput who passed away in June 2020.

Star Studios have announced the re-release of the movie based on the legendary cricketer, MS Dhoni -The Untold Story. The movie features the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, for whom it was the biggest hit of his career.

Along with Sushant Singh, the movie also featured Kiara Advani as Dhoni’s wife Sakshi, and Disha Patani as MS Dhoni’s former girlfriend Priyanka Jha. Veteran actor Anupam Kher portrayed the role of Dhoni’s father, while Rajesh Sharma played the role of Dhoni’s coach.

The movie was released on September 30 in 2016 and proved to be a huge success grossing approx. INR 216 crores on a budget of INR 100 crores.

The movie shows MS Dhoni’s life from his childhood to how he got interested in cricket instead of football. Sushant Singh beautifully portrays the emotional scenes where Dhoni has to choose between his railway job as a ticket collector or go after his dream of becoming a cricketer full-time.   

The movie was directed by Neeraj Pandey and was distributed by Fox Star Studios, the movie hit theaters on September 30, 2016, with the widest release ever for a Bollywood film, spanning 61 countries. The movie received immense acclaim from critics and audiences alike, making it a commercial and critical success.

7 years after its theatrical release, the film is all set for re-release in cinemas now. Star Studios have announced the re-release of the movie based on the legendary cricketer, M.S. Dhoni-The Untold Story officially on Twitter, and the movie will hit the screens on May 12.

Star Studios shared a tweet that read, "Jab Mahi phir pitch pe aayega, pura India sirf "Dhoni! Dhoni! Dhoni!" chilaayega. M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story Re-Releasing in cinemas on 12th May (sic)."

Speaking about the re-release of the movie, Bikram Duggal, head-Studios, Disney Star, said, “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story has not only been an incredibly special film for Star Studios, but also for Indians all over the world, showcasing the inspiring journey of our most successful cricket captain. The re-release aims to give his fans across the country another chance to relive cricket's most magical moments on the big screen.”

An inspiration to billions, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is currently leading the Chennai-based franchise, Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League.
