2023 Cricket World Cup: India to play on slow pitches against top teams, India vs Pakistan to be played at Ahmedabad - Reports

Reportedly, India have demand slow pitches against the top teams at the upcoming ICC 2023 Cricket World Cup.

According to a report in The Indian Express, the BCCI is set to ask Team India for their preference for the matches to be played in the World Cup. The report has also suggested that the team has requested the board to prepare spin-friendly tracks against Australia, New Zealand, England, and South Africa.

“The Indian team has performed well on slow tracks in the past few years at home. So, the team management had requested that whenever the schedule is being prepared the Indian team should face top teams on slow pitches. They wanted to have a home advantage,” a source was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

As speculated, the chances are high that Australia might face India on the sluggish track of Chepauk Stadium, Chennai. The report further stated that the state associations have already filed nominations to host games in the World Cup and a final call on the allotment to the venues would be taken later.

Arguably the biggest cricket rivalry, the match between India and Pakistan is one of the most anticipated and sought-after matches not only by the fans of these two nations but by the whole world as well. It is expected that Narendra Mondi Stadium will be the front-runner to host this high-profile game. With a lot fans expected to come in large numbers for this particular match, the stadium might just be the fit for this game with its seating capacity of 1,32,000. The 2011 World Cup game between India and Pakistan was played in Mohali.

The BCCI is likely to announce the schedule of the 2023 World Cup with a grand ceremony following the conclusion of the IPL 2023. Delhi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Kolkata, Rajkot, Indore, Bengaluru, and Dharamshala have been shortlisted as the hosting grounds, including the practice fixture.
