3 bowlers who can replace Mohammed Shami if gets ruled out of South Africa tests
Mohammed Shami is doubtful for the upcoming two-match test series in South Africa.
Team India are on tour to South Africa to play three T20Is, three ODIs, and two tests. The red-ball leg of the tour will start on December 26 with the first test at SuperSport Park in Centurion. Team India announced their full-strength squad for the upcoming test series. But ahead of the test series, India suffered an injury scare.
Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is likely to be ruled out of the series. As per a report from Cricbuzz, Shami is nursing an ankle injury and will not travel with the team to South Africa. So if the pacer gets ruled out, India will have to find other options. Here we will talk about three possible replacements if Shami gets ruled out.
Here are 3 bowlers who can replace Mohammed Shami if gets ruled out of South Africa tests
1. Vidhwath Kaverappa :
Hailing from Karnataka, Vidhwath Kaverappa is a right-arm pacer who was part of the Irani Cup recently played in India. He is a proven red-ball bowler and has already played 13 first-class games and taken 52 wickets at a brilliant average of 18.25. Vidhwath is an exciting young prospect who is currently playing for India A ahead of the test series. He also took part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and took eight wickets in five games. He has shown great consistency at the domestic level, and he can be the one to replace Mohammed Shami.
2. Navdeep Saini :
Indian speedster Navdeep Saini can also be one candidate who can replace Mohammed Shami for the upcoming tour. He has always been on the sidelines for Indian team, but he hasn’t had many chances. Though he has already represented India across formats. He played three games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 for Delhi, and took eight wickets, and is in good form. India can look to give him a go for the coming series. Navdeep Saini is also part of the India A squad ahead of the test series in South Africa.
3. Tushar Deshpande :
Looking at the current form, Mumbai pacer Tushar Deshpande can be one pacer that can get his maiden test call-up. CSK pacerplayed for Mumbai at the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 before heading to South Africa with India A side and has done a tremendous job in the domestic 50-over tournament. He took 16 wickets in just six matches at an average of 14.65. He plays for CSK in the IPL and has the experience of bowling to international superstars, which can also come into play.
