3 cricketers to play IPL 2008 and IPL 2024 for the same franchise
IPL 2024 will get underway on March 22 with a match between CSK and RCB in Chennai.
The start of the upcoming season of the world’s biggest cricket league Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to take place on March 22, featuring a contest between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). This will start the next installment of the lucrative league, with ten different teams competing against each other to produce some breathtaking matches. Some new iconic stars have re-joined the IPL 2024.
But there are some players who have been playing in this tournament since the very beginning in 2008. Some players have played since the start and have played for different franchises throughout their careers, like Dinesh Karthik and Manish Pandey. Meanwhile, there are some players who will play for the same team in IPL 2024 for whom they made their debuts in 2008.
Here are three cricketers to play for same franchise in IPL 2008 as well as IPL 2024.
3. MS Dhoni – Chennai Super Kings:
Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has been the most capped player as well as captain in the Indian Premier League history. He was the most expensive player in the IPL 2008 when CSK bought him for INR 6 crores. MSD is still part of the same franchise and will be leading CSK in the IPL 2024. Dhoni’s longevity has been incredible and has led Chennai to five titles. Although he played for Rising Pune Supergiant for two seasons (2016 and 2017) when CSK were suspended.
2. Virat Kohli – Royal Challengers Bengaluru:
Only one player in the history of the Indian Premier League has been part of the same franchise from 2008 to 2024, and that is none other than Virat Kohli. The Bengaluru-based franchise bought the Delhi teenager for a price of just INR 12 lakh in 2008, and not many would have thought that was what he would become over time. Virat is the most followed and richest cricketer in the current generation and will play his 17th straight season for RCB in the IPL 2024.
1. Rishi Dhawan – Punjab Kings:
Rishi Dhawan is a well-known name at the Indian domestic level. Born in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, in February 1990, Dhawan has been a prolific all-rounder for Punjab. He made his IPL debut in 2008, when Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) picked him for a price of INR 80 thousand. But he didn’t play any games and was released.
He made his comeback in the league in 2013 when he was bought by Mumbai Indians in the auction. Rishi then played for Punjab Kings in three seasons from 2014 to 2016. His third stint with the Punjab-based franchise started in 2022 when the franchise bought him at IPL 2022 mega auction. He has been a member of the team since then and will represent them in IPL 2024 as well.
