3 CSK players who will earn more than MS Dhoni in IPL 2024
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni will earn INR 12 crores during the IPL 2024.
The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) will once again mark return for the former Indian captain MS Dhoni, who will be leading the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), after having confirmed last year that his comeback would be a return gift to the fans who have backed him over the years.
The veteran batter is regarded as one of the legendary IPL captains of all time. The Jharkhand-born-cricketer has won five IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023). Dhoni, who is also known as ‘Thala,’ has also led CSK to two Champions League T20 titles in 2010 and 2014.
Ahead of the IPL 2024, Thala returned to his vintage long-hair look. The legendary cricketer has been with the Chennai-based franchise since 2008, but in the 2016 and 2017 editions, Dhoni played for the Rising Pune Supergiants, as CSK was suspended at that time. However, he joined CSK once again in the 2018 tournament for a whopping amount of Rs 15 crore as first draft pick.
Since inception of the team, Dhoni has been an integral part of the Chennai-based franchise. MSD has so far featured in 220 matches for the franchise, amassing more than 4500 runs. Notably the Chennai’s adopted son took a pay cut while getting retained by the franchise before IPL 2022 auction. Now Dhoni earns 12 crores per year from CSK, which is less than what three other players from CSK earn in IPL 2024. On that note, let’s take a look at the three CSK stars who will earn more than MS Dhoni in IPL 2024.
Here are 3 CSK stars who will earn more than MS Dhoni in IPL 2024:
3. Daryl Mitchell – ₹14 crores
New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell was acquired by the five-time champions CSK for a whopping amount of Rs 14 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. Mitchell’s contract, worth is two crore more than former Indian skipper MS Dhoni’s IPL 2024 fee, reflects the huge value of International stars in prestigious tournament market.
The Chennai-based franchise is mainly known for their smart buys but they went all-out for New Zealand all-rounder as Daryl became the highest bid for CSK in IPL 2024 mini-auction.
2. Deepak Chahar – ₹14 crores
Another star cricketer who will earn more than MS Dhoni is Indian pacer Deepak Chahar. The right-arm speedster was roped in for a sizable amount of Rs 14 crores, during IPL 2022 auction, which will see him earn two more crores than the former Indian skipper.
The right-arm pacer missed the whole IPL 2022 edition due to an injury, but he was still retained by the Chennai-based franchise for the 2023 season, where he played a few matches. CSK retained him for the same price before IPL 2024 auction and he will earn 14 crores during the season.
1. Ravindra Jadeja – ₹16 crores
Completing the trio of top earners is Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who continues to command a steep price of Rs 16 crore, the same as in the IPL 2023 edition. Jadeja joined CSK in 2012, and since then he has never looked back. Despite moving to the Gujarat Lions for two IPL seasons (2016–2017), when the franchise was suspended, the all-rounder moved to CSK in 2018.
Before the cash-rich league’s 2022 mega auction, five-time champions CSK retained Jadeja for a big amount of 16 crores as their first pick, and they have been retaining him for the same amount since then. He will earn four crores more than Dhoni this season.
