T20 World Cup 2026: 3 Indian players who might play their last T20 WC

India are placed in Group A in ICC T20 World Cup.
Suryakumar Yadav is all set to lead the Indian Cricket Team in T20 World Cup 2026. The Men-in-Blue have named a strong squad for the campaign, comprising both experienced and young players. Under Yadav’s captaincy, India have been unbeaten in bilateral T20I series since the last T20 World Cup in 2024.
While many young Indian players will be in focus during ICC tournament, a few veteran players might feature in their last T20 World Cup. Some players might lose their spots to emerging youngsters, while others might be overlooked by selectors in future. On that note, below are three Indian players who might play their last T20 World Cup.
3 Indian players who might play their last T20 World Cup
3. Suryakumar Yadav

Although Suryakumar made his international debut in 2021, he has played more than 100 T20I matches for India. With his excellence in the shortest format, he was named as the successor of skipper Rohit Sharma in 2024.
He has also done a commendable job as a captain, leading the Men-in-Blue to successive victories in the T20I series as well as crucial tournament like Asia Cup. However, the right-handed batter is already 35 years old and might not be able to retain his place till the next edition.
Moreover, the selectors might go ahead with a young captain in future, keeping in mind the interest of the team. This has also been done in the test and ODI teams, where Shubman Gill took over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma.
2. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson has been regular wicket-keeper batsman for India in T20Is and has also impressed with his performances in the last few years. However, he has struggled to showcase a consistent performance and also failed to make a mark on big occasions.
Recently, wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan was brought back to the T20I setup ahead of T20 World Cup following his impressive form in the domestic circuit. There are chances, Samson might lose his spot due to stiff competition for wicket-keepers and may be absent from the next edition. His presence in the squad is already making a lot of headlines due to his dismal form against New Zealand.
1. Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav is a crucial spinner for India and is often picked in all formats. Last year, he was part of the squads in the crucial test series, ODI series, as well as T20 Asia Cup. Although, he has done reasonably well across formats, he isn’t finding a regular place in the Indian T20I XI.
India have a lot of spin options who are battling hard to cement a spot in the playing XI. Yadav is already featuring in all three formats and it will be challenging for him to retain his spot due to the stiff competition and the availability of spinners. Hence, he might not be able to be part of the next edition of the T20 World Cup.
