3 Indian players might warm the bench in entire India vs Australia ODI series.
Two teams with contrasting forms and results are set to take on each other before the big ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Australia will be the first team to land in India, as they are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against the World Cup hosts. PCA Stadium in Mohali will host the opening ODI on September 22. In the last week, Australia lost the 5-match ODI series against South Africa 2-3, while team India won their 7th 50-overs Asia Cup title in history. This will be a preparation series for both teams before World Cup 2023.
In a big move before the mega event, Indian team management decided to rest captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kuldeep Yadav, and Hardik Pandya for the first two matches of the three-match ODI series. India will be trying out a few options before World Cup to be ready for the worst-case scenario of an injury in the mid-tournament. Despite the seniors missing out on the first two ODIs in Mohali and Indore, there will be a few names probably warming the benches in the upcoming series.
Let’s have a look at three names that might not make it into the playing XI.
1. Ruturaj Gaikwad :

Indian opener Shubman Gill had a wonderful time in this format for team India. Gill has been a prolific run-scorer in recent years and played a magnificent knock against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2023. With Rohit Sharma absent for the first two games, it is expected that Ishan Kishan will be taking up the role along with Gill. This will make Ruturaj Gaikwad wait for more time on the benches.
2. Mohammed Shami :

Right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami played only two games in Asia Cup 2023. He played against Nepal when Jasprit Bumrah was absent due to the birth of his son, and then against Bangladesh when India made five changes in the playing XI. This gave a clear signal that Mohammed Shami would be playing as a backup in the upcoming tournaments. Siraj’s spell in Asia Cup finals makes him first choice along with Jasprit Bumrah and Shardul Thakur in a pace attack.
3. Prasidh Krishna :

Prasidh Krishna is part of Indian squad for the first two ODI games against Australia. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur will be part of the first two ODIs against Australia; therefore, there is no room for anyone among Mohammed Shami or Prasidh Krishna to look for their names in Indian playing XI. Krishna is not part of the Indian squad for the 2023 World Cup.
