Three Indian cricketers have submitted their name for BBL 2023-24 overseas draft.

The anticipation for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season is growing as the list of 376 players nominated for the 2023–24 BBL overseas draft has been announced. Among the international players from various cricketing nations, the spotlight shines on three Indian players who have given their names for the league. Despite the regulations that restrict Indian players from participating in foreign tournaments, these individuals have managed to make their presence felt on the global stage.

The BBL has always been a hotspot for cricket talent from around the world. This year’s overseas draft includes players from 29 countries, each eyeing for a spot on one of the BBL teams. With cricket fans eagerly waiting to witness some exciting matches, the inclusion of Indian players in the draft has increased the interest of many.

Tajinder Dhillon, Milind Kumar, and Shubham Ranjane are three Indian players in overseas draft in this season of BBL.

Tajinder Dhillon, Milind Kumar, and Shubham Ranjane are the three Indian players who have dared to dream beyond the borders. Despite the regulations placed on Indian players participating in foreign leagues, their nomination for the BBL overseas draft showcases their determination to showcase their skills on an international platform.

Tajinder Singh Dhillon started his journey with Rajasthan during the 2016–17 Inter State 20-20 tournament on January 30, 2017. His introduction to List A cricket occurred during the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy for Rajasthan on February 25, 2017.

Tajinder’s career led him to make his first-class debut for Rajasthan in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy on October 6, 2017. His standout moment came soon after  he recorded his maiden first-class century against Jharkhand.

In a significant turn, Tajinder was acquired by the Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL auction, marking his entry into the Indian Premier League. His journey continued when the Kings XI Punjab picked him in the 2020 IPL auction, cementing his presence in the premier T20 league.

Milind Kumar, born on February 15, 1991, has established himself as a notable figure in Indian domestic cricket. He began his journey with Delhi and later moved to Sikkim, showcasing his prowess as a right-hand batsman and occasional off-break bowler. His IPL stint started with Delhi Daredevils in Season 7, and he was subsequently acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 12 at his base price of 20 lakhs.

Kumar’s prominence soared when he emerged as the top scorer in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy, amassing an impressive 1331 runs. This feat drew attention, leading to his selection in the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2019 Indian Premier League.

Shubham Ranjane, born on March 26, 1994, is a prominent Indian first-class cricketer associated with Goa. His cricket journey commenced with Mumbai, where he made his first-class debut during the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy on November 21, 2016.

In a noteworthy move, the Rajasthan Royals acquired him during the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League in December 2018. Despite this, he was released by the Royals before the 2020 IPL auction.

His career path expanded internationally when he was selected by the Seattle Orcas to participate in the 2023 Major League Cricket Season. This leap showcases his growing stature and appeal in the cricketing realm.

While the inclusion of these Indian players in the overseas draft is undoubtedly a cause for celebration, it’s important to note the challenges they face due to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) regulations. Indian players are generally barred from participating in foreign leagues due to concerns about workload management and prioritizing domestic cricket. However, the desire to play on bigger platforms and gain exposure to different conditions has driven these players to take the leap.

Following their retirement from India and IPL cricket, Indian players can engage in overseas T20 leagues. The BCCI is considering the implementation of regulations to address concerns arising from a rising number of retirements for foreign leagues. Ambati Rayudu’s participation in the American Major League Cricket and Robin Uthappa’s involvement with Dubai Capitals in ILT20 have sparked discussions about the trend.
