3 things which will be missed in IPL 2024 with MS Dhoni leaving CSK captaincy
MS Dhoni has handed over CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the IPL 2024.
The start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has brought shocking news to many fans. The moment that everyone knew would happen some day has come a bit early. Well, we are not talking about MS Dhoni’s retirement, but the end of his legacy as a captain. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain has decided to step down from his role as a captain. The Chennai-based franchise confirmed the news on Thursday, March 21, that Dhoni has transferred his role to Ruturaj Gaikwad.
It means Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the Yellow Army in the IPL 2024. It is shocking news for some fans, while others are welcoming this decision. However, only time will tell if this decision will be beneficial or if it will backfire like it did with Ravindra Jadeja. But one thing is sure: with Dhoni no longer the captain, there will be certain things that will be missed by the fans.
Here are the 3 things which will be missed in IPL 2024 with MS Dhoni leaving CSK captaincy
3. Fielding Placements:
MS Dhoni has probably the coolest brain amongst all cricketers, and it usually reflects in what he does on the field. The 42-year-old is always involved in the game and keeps changing fielding according to the batters, and his changes end well for the team. One prime example was the IPL 2010 final, when MI were chasing 169 and Kieron Pollard was 27 off 9. He placed a unorthodox straight mid-on, and Pollard fell into the trap, and eventually CSK won the final. That was just one of many successes CSK had because of Dhoni’s fielding changes.
2. Bowling changes:
Giving the final over to Joginder Sharma in the final of the T20 World Cup 2007 was a masterstroke that changed many things in Indian cricket. Eventually, it also showed the guiding light to introduce IPL. Since then, fans have seen many moments where Dhoni turned the match situation around with the bowling changes. One of the prime examples was seen in the 2011 final against RCB, when Chris Gayle was looking threatening. Dhoni brought in Ravi Ashwin to bowl, and he dismissed Gayle in his first over, which changed the whole scenario for CSK, and they won the title.
1. MS Dhoni talking at toss and post match presentations:
The biggest thing that will be missed by everyone is Dhoni with the mic. Whether it is his conversation at the toss or post-match interviews, he has always made fans go crazy. That is why, whenever he comes to talk, fans get very excited and cheer the loudest. With Dhoni no more captaining in the IPL, we might not see him talk with presenters following the match, which will be the biggest thing missed among the fans.
