Two Indian cricketers feature in the list of four cricketers with 4000 runs & 350 wickets in Test cricket.

In the gruelling 147-year history of the oldest format of cricket, Test cricket, there have been several greats who have mastered a single discipline. However, mastering both disciplines, batting and bowling, requires an elite standard that has been reserved for some of the true icons of the game.

While world cricket has seen several legendary all-rounders like Jacques Kallis, Imran Khan and Garry Sobers, not many have mastered the game to such an extent that they have added more than 4000 runs and picked up 350 scalps in their Test careers.

With only four cricketers having aced this exceptionally rare all-round double, two of them are from the Indian Cricket Team alone. Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja enlisted himself in the list during the first Test against Sri Lanka, when he picked the 350th scalp of his Test career.

The former Indian captain is one of the greatest ever all-rounders in the history of Test cricket. During his generation, Kapil Dev was a force of nature, carrying India’s fast-bowling department almost single-handedly for over a decade.

In this list of legendary all-rounders, Kapil is the highest run-getter as well as the highest wicket-taker. He was the first to break Richard Hadlee’s former record of most Test wickets and finished his career with 434 scalps. In an illustrious Test career between 1978 and 1994, Dev featured in 131 Tests for India and amassed 5248 runs with eight centuries to his name.

3. Daniel Vettori

The former New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori made his debut back in 1997 as an 18-year-old youngster. The Kiwi legend started his career as a prodigiously talented left-arm orthodox spinner; however, over time, he developed the tenacity as well as the technique of a middle-order batter.

Having captained New Zealand during the latter part of his career, he amassed 4531 runs in Test cricket with six centuries and 23 half-centuries under his belt. The legendary spinner, in his career spanning over 113 Tests, also picked 362 wickets with 20 five-wicket hauls.

    2. Ian Botham

Easily one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game, Ian Botham’s, who was known as England’s ultimate big match player, career spanned over 15 years between 1977 and 1992. One of the fast-bowling all-rounders on the list, Botham dominated games with sheer willpower during the early peak of his career.

He cemented his legacy in Test cricket as one of the most charismatic match-winners for England. In a career of 102 matches, Botham amassed 5200 runs as a top-order batter and had 14 centuries under his belt. The English pacer also picked 383 wickets with 27 five-wicket hauls.

The youngest among the legendary all-rounders to have etched his name into the history books with an exemplary record. Playing the 90th match of his Test career, Ravindra Jadeja has amassed 4108 runs with five centuries to his name.

Though initially known as a defensive left-arm spinner, he evolved into one of modern cricket’s most valuable match winners in the longest format of the game. Known for his sublime accuracy and high arm drift, he often turns the lives of batters miserable.

Holding onto the No. 1 ICC ranking as a Test all-rounder, Jadeja’s second wicket against Sri Lanka at Galle raced him to 350 career wickets. Earlier he had completed 4000 runs with the bat. Coupled with his excellent ability on the field, Jadeja often possesses stunning tactical balance.
