Fourth Umpire explains why Angelo Mathews was dismissed "Timed Out" in BAN vs SL CWC 2023 match

Fourth Umpire Adrian Holdstock explained the decision of Angelo Mathews' dismissal.
In a historic moment during the 38th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, cricket fans witnessed an unprecedented event. Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews found himself walking back to the pavilion with a rare mode of dismissal known as "Timed Out."
Angelo Mathews made his way to the middle with a leisurely manner, taking his own time even before he set foot on the crease. What made this situation even more peculiar was Matthews encountering an issue with his helmet. The frustration of Bangladeshi team was palpable as Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan and his team used the opportunity to appeal for a timed-out dismissal, in accordance with the rules governing this rare mode of getting a batsman out. The umpires, bound by the regulations, had no option but to grant the time-out, despite Mathews' earnest efforts to plead his case.

During the break at the end of the first innings, the fourth umpire, Adrian Holdstock, stepped forward to explain the decision. He stated, “When it comes to timed out, the incoming batter has to be in position and ready to receive a ball within two minutes and we have certain protocols where the TV umpire at a fall of the wicket monitors the two minutes and he will relay the message on to the on field umpires."
According to established protocols, the TV umpire closely monitored the two-minutes timeframe and communicated this information to the on-field umpires. Holdstock further explained, "In the instance this afternoon, the batter wasn't ready to receive the ball within those two minutes, even before the strap became an issue."
The turning point in the match came when the fielding captain, Marais Erasmus, initiated the appeal for a timed-out dismissal. This unprecedented moment highlighted the importance of abiding to the rules and regulations that govern the game of cricket.
