Top 5 active Indian batsmen with most test runs against England

Only two Indian batsmen have scored over 2000 runs against England in test cricket.
India will be taking on England in a five-match test series in the next two months. The first test will commence on 25th January and will be played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. After Hyderabad, both sides will travel to Vishakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamshala for the remaining of the series. India will be looking to whitewash England and tame England’s newly adopted approach of ‘Bazball’ in test cricket.
There will be a huge expectation from Virat Kohli in the upcoming series. He is just nine runs away from becoming the third Indian batter to score more than 2000 test runs against England. So far only Sachin Tendulkar (2535) and Sunil Gavaskar (2483) have touched the milestone. Let’s have a look at the top-five leading run-scorers among active Indian batters against England in test cricket.
5. Ajinkya Rahane – 840 Runs :

Discarded Indian middle-order batter Ajinkya Rahane has had decent performances for India against the English side. Indian fans still remember his hundred at Lord’s in 2014 where India broke the jinx of back-to-back losses on English soil. Ajinkya Rahane has scored 840 runs in 38 innings against England. Rahane’s only hundred against England came at Lord’s in 2014. He averages 22.70 in 38 innings.
4. KL Rahul – 847 Runs :

KL Rahul is India’s one of the prolific run-scorer against England in tests. KL Rahul has played a few magnificent knocks against the English side in the test cricket. KL Rahul has so far played 12 test matches and scored 847 runs in 22 innings. Rahul has scored three centuries and one half-century in 12 test matches. His average is 38.50 against England.
3. Ravi Ashwin – 970 Runs :

Indian all-rounder Ravi Ashwin is third leading run-scorer for India against England among the non-retired players. Ashwin is a useful batter for India down the order. All-rounder Ravi Ashwin has played 19 test matches and scored 970 runs in 31 innings so far. Ashwin also has a century against England in tests, which came at Chepauk, Chennai in England’s previous tour of India in 2020-21. Ashwin averages 37.29 against England.
2. Cheteshwar Pujara – 1778 Runs :

Indian discarded number 3 batter Cheteshwar Pujara had a bit of a struggle batting in England but he is still among the leading run-scorers for India amongst the non-retired players. Cheteshwar Pujara has played 27 test matches and scored 1778 runs in 49 innings. Pujara’s average while batting in England is just 29, he has managed to score five centuries against England in 27 test matches so far. Pujara is currently out of Indian camp due to a string of poor performances with the bat.
1. Virat Kohli – 1991 Runs :

Star Indian batter Virat Kohli is not only the leading run-scorer for India in tests against England among non-retired players, but also the leading run-scorer in international cricket overall. Virat Kohli has so far scored 1991 runs in 28 test matches against England. He needs nine runs to become only the third Indian batter to score more than 2000 runs against England. Kohli has scored five centuries and nine half-centuries in 50 innings against England in whites. Kohli’s average is 42.36 in the 50 innings he batted. Virat’s highest individual test score against England is 235, which came in 2016.
