Only one Indian bowler has taken 100 wickets against England in test cricket.

India and England have been part of the a few exciting cricket series in their history. Pataudi Trophy and Anthony De Mello Trophy are one of the most prestigious bilateral tournaments in cricket. England hosted India’s first ever test match and since then they have played a few memorable encounters in the last 90 plus years history. Past few series have been dominated entirely by the bowlers as both sides were equipped with talented names in the game.

Only one bowler Indian camp was able to pick up more than 100 test wickets against England. Ravichandran Ashwin has dominated the bowlers stats mostly in the last 7-8 years in the longer format of the game. Former spinner Bhagwat Chandrasekhar is India’s second leading wicket-taker against England with 95 wickets in 23 test matches. Let’s have a look at the top five active Indian bowlers with the most test wickets against England.

4. Mohammed Shami – 44 Wickets :

Right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami has dealt with injuries after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2024 in India. Shami missed the entire five match test series against England in February and March. Mohammed Shami has also done a magnificent job for India against England and picked up 44 wickets in 15 test matches. Shami has been a match-winner for India in test cricket. His average against England is 38.29 so far.

5. Jasprit Bumrah – 58 Wickets :

Jasprit Bumrah is ranked among the leading wicket-takers against England for India due to his consistent performances. Jasprit Bumrah has played 10 test matches against the English side and picked up 58 wickets at a brilliant average of 21.39 so far. He has also picked three five-wicket hauls for India against England. Bumrah also led India in one test match against England in 2022.

3. Ravindra Jadeja – 64 Wickets :

Indian left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja is India’s one of the leading match-winners in test cricket. Ravindra Jadeja’s partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin has been the most impactful duo in Indian bowling line-up. Ravindra Jadeja has played 16 test matches against England and picked up 64 wickets at an outstanding average of 33.48 so far. Jadeja had a terrific batting performances against England as well.

2. Ishant Sharma – 67 Wickets :

Discarded Indian pacer Ishant Sharma is the second leading wicket-taker among non-retired players for India against England. Ishant Sharma now has been sidelined and he has not played a test match for India in the last two years. Ishant Sharma picked up 67 wickets for India against England in the 23 test matches. Sharma picked up 51 wickets in 15 test matches in England and the rest of the 16 wickets came on Indian pitches.

Ravichandran Ashwin is the only Indian bowler with 100 test wickets against England. Ashwin overtook Bhagwat Chandrashekhar, Anil Kumble in Visakhapatnam test match played in 2024. Ashwin has picked up 100 wickets at an average of 29.16, he has also picked up six five wicket haul and once a 10 wicket haul in a game. Ashwin also completed his 500 wickets milestone against England.
