Five Australian cricketers who will make their maiden ICC Cricket World Cup appearance in 2023
Australia announced their 15-members squad led by Pat Cummins for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Cricket Australia announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday. The team will be led by Pat Cummins, and all the big guns have returned to the squad. Though some of the players will be playing in their first ever World Cup tournament, a number of them are from the team that won the 2015 edition.
The five-time champions still have time until September 28 to submit their final squad if they want to make any changes in case of injury. However, the team is looking pretty solid with veterans and youngsters on it. Here we will talk about five Australian players who will feature in the ICC World Cup for the first time in 2023.
1. Sean Abbott:
Australia have picked bowling all-rounder Sean Abbott, who will be making his World Cup debut. The 31-years-old is part of Australian team for South Africa. In three T20Is, he has picked up eight wickets, which earned him a place in the World Cup squad. Abbott has played 11 ODIs so far, taken 13 wickets, and scored 131 runs with the bat as well.
2. Ashton Agar:
Australia have picked up number of all-rounders in their squads that can win games in both departments. Ashton Agar is another such player who will be very useful with both bat and the ball on the Indian pitches. The 29-years-old has been part of the white-ball setup for a long time since making his debut in 2015, but will play his first ODI World Cup. Agar has played 21 ODIs, taken 20 wickets, and scored 274 runs with the bat as well.
3. Cameron Green:
Cameron Green made his debut in test cricket first. It was the three-match T20I series in India ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup that showed the white-ball version of Green. And now he is part of Australian World Cup squad. The all-rounder did an amazing job in his maiden IPL season for Mumbai Indians, and he knows the conditions in India. Adding to that, his all-round skills make him a valuable asset for any team.
4. Travis Head:
Travis Head has now become a regular in the batting order for Australian team across formats. He was the man of the match when Australia thrashed India in the WTC final in 2023. Apart from that, he is also equally brilliant in white-ball cricket. However, Head can bat anywhere in the batting order, which makes him an important player. The left-handed batter has played 54 ODIs so far and scored 1912 runs at 40.68, with three centuries and 14 half-centuries.
5. Josh Inglis:
Australia have picked young Josh Inglis as a backup keeper in their team. Alex Carey will be their first-choice keeper. But Inglis is another talented youngster who has done a decent job in recent times. He is part of the ongoing South Africa tour, and the team has shown trust in him. The 28-years-old has gotten the nod over veteran Matthew Wade and will be making his first appearance in the World Cup tournament.
