India and England have been clashing against each other in test cricket since 1932. Both teams have played more than 130 test matches and there have been a number of amazing players that have had amazing performances while facing one another. However, there are only four batters who have scored more than 2000 runs against their opponents.

Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most test runs as an Indian batter against England in test matches. Here we will talk about the top five run-getters in IND vs ENG test matches. Virat Kohli is very close to completing 2000 runs.

5. Virat Kohli :

Indian batter Virat Kohli loves challenges and he performs well when the pressure is on. For an Asian batter, it is not easy to do well in England, where the conditions are in favour of the pacers. He has scored the most amount of runs in IND vs ENG test matches among active Indian cricketers. He has so far scored 1991 runs in 28 matches at 42.36, with five centuries and nine half-centuries.

4. Alastair Cook :

Alastair Cook is probably the best test opener that England have produced in their history. He made his test debut against India in March 2006 and smashed 60 and 104* in the first two innings, showing that India would be his favorites opposition. Cook played 30 tests against India and scored 2431 runs at 47.66, with seven centuries and nine half-centuries. Not to forget, he also smashed a century against India in last test of his career.

3. Sunil Gavaskar :

Indian legendary cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar has scored runs against every opposition and he was a run-machine in test cricket. He was the first man to cross 10,000 runs in test cricket and played 38 test matches against the English team. In his career, he scored 2483 runs at an average of 38.20, with a best of 221. He scored four centuries and 16 half-centuries.

2. Sachin Tendulkar :

Sachin Tendulkar needs no introduction to the game. He retired with almost more than 5000 international runs against every big team. Against England, he played 32 test matches and scored 2535 runs at an average of 51.73. His highest score was 193. Sachin scored seven centuries and 13 half-centuries against England during his career.

To surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s batting record, you must be the best and that’s what Joe Root is whenever he comes to bat against India. Root is the highest run-scorer against India in test cricket. He has played 26 matches and scored 2555 runs at an average of 62.31, with a best of 218. Root has also scored nine centuries and 10 half-centuries against in India in test cricket.
