The first innings of the first semi-finals of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai has been a record-breaking one. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has seen some really massive scores achieved by the batting sides. And today was nothing different. Batting first, India went on to post a massive total in the first innings.
They made 397/4 in 50 overs courtesy of some incredible batting displays from the batters. It was one of the highest totals in the ongoing tournament. 5. Sri Lanka (289/5) vs New Zealand :
Sri Lanka played the finals of the 2007 edition and beat New Zealand in the semi-finals played at Kingston. They batted first and scored 289/5 in the first innings. Skipper Mahela Jayawardene scored an unbeaten 115 runs with 10 fours and three sixes. In reply, New Zealand were dismissed for 208 runs, and Sri Lanka won by 81 runs.
4. West Indies (293/6) vs Pakistan :
West Indies won the first two editions of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1975 and 1979. In the 1979 edition, West Indies faced Pakistan in the semis at The Oval. Batting first, West Indies made 293/6 in 60 overs. Gordon Greenidge (73) and Desmond Haynes (65) scored half-centuries at the top, and there were some other contributions as well. Pakistan managed a 250-run all-out and lost the game by 43 runs.
3. New Zealand (299/6) vs South Africa :
The first semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 was played between New Zealand and South Africa in Auckland. Batting first, South Africa managed a total of 281/5 in 43 overs. The rain shortened the game, and New Zealand got a revised target of 298 runs in 43 overs to win as per the DLS method. Skipper Brendon McCullum had an excellent start with a 26-ball 59. Grant Elliott scored an unbeaten 84 off 73 and hit a six when New Zealand needed five off the last two balls. New Zealand finished with 299/6 and won the thriller.
2. Australia (328/7) vs India :
The second-highest total came in the second semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 between India and Australia at the SCG. Batting first, Australia made 328/7 in 50 overs. Aaron Finch made 81 at the top. Steve Smith smashed a brilliant hundred and made 105 off 93. In reply, India were dismissed for 233 runs, and Australia won it by 95 runs.

No team crossed the 350-run mark in the World Cup semi-finals before the first semi-final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium. India won the toss, batted first, and went on to score a massive total of 397/4 in 50 overs. Virat Kohli hit his 50th ODI ton and scored 117, and Shreyas Iyer scored 105 off 70. Shubman Gill also scored an unbeaten 80 runs, and Rohit Sharma made a 29-ball 47. India hit 19 sixes in their innings.
