The first women’s ODI cricket game was played in 1973.
The cricket boards of the major cricketing nations and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have taken significant steps to promote women’s cricket. T20 leagues such as the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) have added excitement to the game and boosted fan engagement.
Recent developments have also contributed to the improvement in the quality of women’s ODI cricket. While Australia and England women’s teams remain the teams to beat, other teams have gradually narrowed the gap.

5. New Zealand – 418 vs Ireland, 2018
One of New Zealand women’s most remarkable batting performances came in Dublin against Ireland in June 2018.
Sophie Devine led the Kiwi batting lineup to 418 runs with her 108-run knock. She was well supported by Maddy Green and Amy Satterthwaite, who both contributed with half-centuries each.
The strong batting performance helped New Zealand register a comfortable 306-run win.
4. India – 435/5 vs Ireland, 2025
India women registered their highest WODI total in the third WODI of Ireland’s tour of India 2025 in Rajkot.
The hosts got off to a blistering start with a 233-run opening partnership between Pratika Rawal (154) and Smriti Mandhana (135). Mandhana, in particular, took on the aggressor’s role, hammering seven sixes during her electrifying innings, while Rawal creamed 20 fours.
Richa Ghosh then finished the innings, scoring 59 runs in 42 balls, propelling India to 435 runs.
3. New Zealand – 440/3 vs Ireland, 2018
The Ireland Cricket Team were on the receiving end of a battering from New Zealand when the visitors posted a massive total of 440 in Dublin in 2018.
Batting first, the top-order pair of Amelia Kerr (232) and Leigh Kasperek (113) laid the foundation for a big total with a 295-run partnership for the second wicket.
New Zealand ultimately clinched the game with a 305-run margin and Kerr was named Player of the Match for her historic double century.
2. New Zealand – 455/5 vs Pakistan, 1997
New Zealand hold the record for the second-highest total in WODI history for their massive total of 455 runs against Pakistan in 1997.
New Zealand dismantled the Pakistan bowling attack, with captain Maia Lewis making history with a brilliant 105-run knock. Lewis combined with opener Debbie Hockley for a 120-run partnership, putting the Kiwis in a commanding position.
New Zealand bowled out Pakistan women for just 47 runs to complete a record 408-run victory.
1. New Zealand – 491/4 vs Ireland, 2018
New Zealand recorded the highest team total in women’s ODI cricket of 491 runs against Ireland in Dublin in 2018.
Batting first, New Zealand women got off to a fantastic start with a 172-run opening partnership. Captain Suzie Bates led from the front, scoring a brilliant 151 off 94 balls. Amelia Kerr provided the perfect finishing touch with a quickfire 81 off just 45 deliveries.
New Zealand won the game by 347 runs
