Team India will start their Asia Cup 2023 campaign on September 2 against Pakistan in Pallekele.

The Men in Blue are getting ready for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, which is all set to begin in Pakistan and Sri Lanka on August 30. The first game will see Pakistan take on Nepal in Multan, while India will begin their journey with a game against Pakistan on September 2 in Pallekele. All the Indian players have gathered in Alur for the special training camp and are undergoing the required fitness tests.

Some of the players, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya, have successfully completed the Yo-Yo test ahead of Asia Cup 2023. Meanwhile, a report from PTI claims that opener Shubman Gill has topped the Yo-Yo test with an impressive score of 18.7. All the cricketers who have undergone the test have cleared it, while Virat scored 17.2, which he even posted on his Instagram story.

Five Indian players are yet to undergo the Yo-Yo test for the Asia Cup 2023

Yo-Yo test is designed to measure the fitness and endurance of the player, which is an important part of training camp. The BCCI doesn’t want any further injury to the players and wants to keep everyone fit for the selection in two big tournaments coming up. But some reports confirm that five Indian players have yet to take the test. Those five players are Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and KL Rahul.

A BCCI source confirmed PTI, “The YoYo test is an aerobic endurance fitness test. Gill, as of now, has the highest score of 18.7. Most of the players have scored between 16.5 and 18.”Notably, after the ongoing fitness camp, India will play non-stop cricket, which will require every player to be fit enough to give 100 percent.

The Yo-Yo test was introduced in 2017 by strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu. Earlier, the cut-off score was 16.1, but it has not increased to 16.5 after taking note of the amount of cricket being played. Indian players passing the test indicate that they are fit to compete in the big tournaments starting up. Notably, India were unable to qualify for the Asia Cup final in the last two editions, and the Asia Cup 2023 will be a great tournament to prepare for the World Cup.
