Top five Sri Lanka Women players to watch out for in IND vs SL series

Chamari Athapaththu will lead Sri Lanka in the IND-W vs SL-W T20I series.
Newly crowned ODI World Champions team India are set to take on Sri Lanka in a highly anticipated five-match series, beginning December 21. Harmanpreet Kaur and her side will play the first two matches of the series in Vizag before the series ends in Thiruvananthapuram.
This will be a key series for Sri Lanka as well as India keeping in mind the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, set to be played in June 2026. Sri Lanka, who had a miserable ODI World Cup this year would be keen to show their might in the shortest format of the game.
Sri Lanka had defeated India by eight-wickets in 2024 to win their first ever Asia Cup tournament. Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Samarawickrama’s half-centuries ensured the hosts got over the finishing line with eight balls left in the game. The Lankans have won just five times against India compared to the 19 wins posted by their upcoming opponents.
Top five players to watch out for in the upcoming IND vs SL T20 series
5- Vishmi Gunaratne

Young batter Vishmi Gunaratne has always been seen as a prodigy in Sri Lankan cricketing alleys. The 20-year-old made her debut at the age of 16. Gunaratne, made her T20I debut against Scotland and her ODI debut against India in 2022.
The right-handed batter is set to play her 50th T20I game and so far she has scored 755 runs with three fifties. Vishmi has to work on her average and strike-rate which is on the lower side but there is no doubt in her talent and the run scoring she is known for.
4- Inoka Ranaweera

Yet another veteran bowler who will be shoring the bowling unit for Sri Lanka is none other than left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera. The 39-year-old has the reputation to tie the batters with her guile and can beat the best names in the business with her flight and skills.
Ranaweera, has picked 92 wickets from the 84 T20I matches that she has been part of. The 39-year-old has an economy rate of 5.9 runs per over so far. The veteran spinner will be keen to test her skills against the likes of Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur who are good players of spin.
3- Harshitha Samarawickrama

Left-handed batter Harshitha Samarawickrama has become one of the key figures for Sri Lanka across all formats. The 27-year-old has been one of the most consistent batters for her side in recent years. Samarawickrama, has the ability to play well against the pacers and also use her feet well against spinners.
The 27-year-old has played a total of 72 T20I matches for Sri Lanka scoring 1527 runs with eight fifties. Known to be a batting anchor, Samarawickrama has a career strike rate of 97 and career average of 28.
2- Kavisha Dilhari

Young Kavisha Dilhari has become a key member for Sri Lanka’s T20 women’s side not just with the bat, but also with the ball. The 24-year-old is an able middle-order batter and more than capable right-arm spin bowler. Dilhari, bowls both off and leg spin with ease.
Dilhari, has played a total of 69 games scoring 546 runs with one fifty and has an career strike-rate of 103. With the ball, the 24-year-old has picked 54 wickets with an economy rate of 6.5 runs per over.
1- Chamari Athapaththu

Veteran skipper Chamari Athapaththu is one of the legends of the game and is the fourth highest run-getter in this format of the game. The 35-year-old is known for her run-getting and ability to score big. Athapaththu, has scored three centuries which is the joint second most in women’s cricket.
Chamari Athapaththu, has played a total of 146 games and scored 3458 runs with three centuries and 13 fifties. The 35-year-old has an career average of 25 and strike-rate of 110. Athapaththu, has also done well with the ball taking 63 wickets with economy rate of 6.5 runs per over.
