Five surprising releases by teams ahead of the IPL 2024 auction

All ten teams have announced the list of retained and released players ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.
The preparation for the next edition of the Indian Premier League is in full swing, with all ten IPL franchises having submitted their lists for the released and retained players ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. The coming auction will take place next month, in December, in the UAE.
Some big superstars have been released and will come under the hammer in the coming auction. There were a few releases, which were expected, but some decisions from the franchises shocked everyone. In this article, we will talk about five such players released by the IPL teams that were unexpected.
Here are five Surprising Release ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction
1. Wanindu Hasaranga (RCB):

Sri Lankan super star Wanindu Hasaranga was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore for three seasons. He was signed by RCB in the IPL 2021 for a whopping price of INR 10.75 crore. Hasaranga played 26 games for them and took 35 wickets at an economy rate of 8.13. RCB released Yuzi Chahal earlier and Hasaranga now, and they don't have any big names in the spin department now, which comes as a big surprise.
2. Josh Hazlewood (RCB):

It looks like RCB have a certain plan ahead of the IPL 2024 auction because they have released almost all the main bowlers they had in the squad. One of their main weapons, Josh Hazlewood has been released. Many fans believe that this could be a blunder or that the franchise will go after him in the auction again. He played two seasons for them and took 23 wickets in 15 games. According to RCB, Hazlewood is expecting a baby in late March 2024 and is likely to miss for one month, which is why he has been released.
3. Lockie Ferguson (KKR):

Kiwi Speedster Lockie Ferguson is another big overseas star who has been released. He was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2019 to 2021. In 2022 mega-auction, he was bought by Gujarat Titans for a whopping price of INR 10 crore. Before the IPL 2023, KKR traded in Ferguson from GT. In the last season, Ferguson played only 3 games for KKR and managed to pick only one wicket. That might be the reason why KKR released him. Although, releasing a bowler of his pace is nonetheless surprising.
2. Umesh Yadav (KKR):

Veteran Indian pacer Umesh Yadav is another big name that has been released. The pacer joined KKR for a price of INR 2 crore (base price) in 2022. He was pretty good and picked up 16 wickets, but in the last season he played only 8 games and took one wicket, which might be the reason that he has been released ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.
1. Kartik Tyagi (SRH):

Indian speedster Kartik Tyagi, who made his name with his pace and some brilliant death bowling, was picked by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2022 edition. But he couldn't get many games. He was picked for a price of INR 4 crore. In 2022, he played two games, and in 2023, he played three matches. Hence, the franchise has released him ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.
