List of injury-prone cricketers in the modern-day cricket.
Modern-day cricket demands great fitness to stay relevant to the game. With so much cricket being played across formats and T20 leagues across the world, players need to be fit both physically and mentally. But some players struggle to stay fit and get injured regularly.
That results in some players missing out on a big chance to play international cricket. Here we will talk about such injury-prone players that have a history of suffering from various injuries throughout their careers, which kept them away from the game on most occasions.
Here are the most injury-prone cricketers currently:
1. Jofra Archer :
Jofra Archer is one of the best fast bowlers in modern-day cricket across formats. In such a short period, he has achieved a lot and is a great bowler to face in any situation of the game. But unfortunately for him and England, he has always been out of action due to injury. He missed T20 World Cup 2022, Ashes 2023, and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as well. Archer bowled the super-over for England in the World Cup final in 2019 but has been in and out since then due to a stress fracture to his right elbow. Ever since he damaged his right elbow in 2020, he has been suffering multiple injuries in succession.
2. KL Rahul :
KL Rahul also missed international cricket for more than six months. He suffered a hamstring injury during IPL 2023, which forced him out of the game for a long time. He missed out on WTC 2023 final as a result. Rahul underwent surgery on his right thigh and spent months at National Cricket Academy (NCA). He made his comeback in Asia Cup 2023, but he has a history of injuries in his career.
3. Reece Topley :
Reece Topley was England's plan for the 2022 T20 World Cup that England won, but he damaged his ankle ligaments after a freak trip over a boundary cushion in a practice game, which ruled him out of the tournament. He made his comeback during IPL 2023, but after the first few matches, he injured his shoulder and was ruled out. After marking his comeback after a few months, Topley has now suffered a broken finger in the group match against South Africa in Mumbai and has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
4. Shreyas Iyer :
Shreyas Iyer is a key player in Indian middle-order. But he was out of the team for almost six months. Iyer suffered a slip disc ahead of IPL 2023 and missed the action for the next six months. He spent more than six months at National Cricket Academy (NCA) and completed his rehab. Iyer made his comeback into international cricket during Asia Cup 2023.
5. Jhye Richardson :
Australian young pacer Jhye Richardson is a pretty exciting prospect who bowls hard length and caught the attention with some good performances. But he has been pretty unfortunate and has been injured most of the times. After suffering a hamstring injury, he was out of action for nine months and was expected to make his return in October in the Sheffield Shield for Western Australia. But he dislocated his shoulder, which ruled him out for another domestic season.
6. Will Pucovski :
Australian batter Will Pucovski is on an indefinite break from cricket for personal reasons and injury issues. The talented batter has gone through a lot of injuries in his short career. Pucovski has been cruelly injured by freak occurrences, as he has smacked his head on a door at home, been struck by a misplaced delivery in the nets, and fallen over when sprinting between the wickets after his bat was snagged in the ground while grounding it. Will Pucovski has so far suffered concussion more than 10 times in his career.
7. Deepak Chahar :
Deepak Chahar is another Indian star who has been in and out due to a string of injuries in his career. He has suffered from back stiffness and hamstring injuries and spent 6-7 months at NCA in Bengaluru. He missed the entire IPL 2022 and had to sit out of the 2022 T20 World Cup as well. Chahar made his comeback in IPL 2023 and suffered injury between the tournament as well and missed over five games. Deepak Chahar is yet to make his Indian comeback.
8. Anrich Nortje :
Anrich Nortje is one of the fastest bowlers in modern-day cricket. He has also been an injury-prone player. He was out of action earlier, for a few months. But later, he made his comeback in the IPL 2023. He played a few series for South Africa, but just ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Nortje was ruled out once again due to a stress fracture. He also missed the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England with a hand injury.
