Aakash Chopra questions BCCI on Suryakumar Yadav's "inclusion-exclusion" from the Test squad

The BCCI has announced the Indian Cricket Team's squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia at The Oval in London. The WTC final will start on 7th June, just a week after the IPL 2023 final. BCCI selectors have made a major change in the Indian middle-order for the Championship final. Ajinkya Rahane has made his comeback to the Indian Cricket Team after a long one-year period. Rahane was dropped from the Indian team after a poor South Africa tour in January 2022. Selectors have also decided to give Suryakumar Yadav a miss in the test team for the final.

Suryakumar Yadav dropped after just one game

Former Indian opener now turned Commentator, Aakash Chopra has raised questions about the selector's decision to drop Suryakumar Yadav from the squad. Aakash Chopra tweeted, “Happy for Ajinkya Rahane, but how does the SKY inclusion–exclusion make sense? Why was he selected? And even if was selected, why was he dropped just after one game?” Suryakumar Yadav made his test debut against Australia in Nagpur. Yadav was out scoring just 8 runs in one inning. Suryakumar Yadav had paid the price for his initial failures in the IPL as well as against Australia in the ODIs.

Right-hand batter Suryakumar Yadav had a streak of ducks in the recent two months in international cricket as well as in the IPL 2023. Selectors have also taken Rahane’s experience in the English conditions into consideration for his selection in place of SKY. Rahane’s recent IPL form has also brought some confidence in him. Though, it will be a different ball game against Australia in England. India lost the previous WTC final against New Zealand at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton in 2021.
