Aaron Finch announces retirement from BBL, to retire after ongoing BBL 2023-24

Aaron Finch captained Melbourne Renegades to BBL title win in 2018-19.
Former Melbourne Renegades skipper Aaron Finch has decided to bring down curtains on his glorious white-ball career after the end of the ongoing BBL 2023-24 season. Finch is currently part of Melbourne Renegades side. Renegades are struggling to take off their campaign in BBL 2023-24 and have won only one game in the ongoing season.
Aaron Finch announced his retirement ahead of Renegades’ encounter against Hobart Hurricanes at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. Finch realised that it was time for him to call it a day in his illustrious T20 career. Most likely, Finch will not be taking part in any T20 league in the future. Finch played his last game for Renegades before Christmas.

While announcing his retirement Aaron Finch said that he is getting old and this is the right time for him to say goodbye. Finch said, “I’m just getting old! When you look around the competition and our side in particular, there are some great young players coming through. I think now is the right time.” Finch retired from international cricket earlier in 2023.
Aaron Finch added, “There’ve been some real lows but great highs, and I’ve loved every bit of the journey.” Finch also expressed that winning BBL title with Melbourne Renegades in BBL 8 remains a lovely memory for him. He said, “No moment can compare to winning the BBL title. That, for me, was very special, and something I’ll remember. I’m really proud to have played at one club for the entirety of my career.”
Aaron Finch is expected to play his farewell match against Melbourne Stars on 13th January. He will conclude his BBL career as the second leading run-scorer (3311) in the tournament’s history and seventh overall in the T20 format with 11,458 runs in 386 matches. Finch won the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE as captain of Australian team. Finch scored only 66 runs in three innings for Renegades in the ongoing season.
