AB de Villiers names his top five ODI cricketers of all time, including 3 Indians

AB de Villiers himself is considered to be one of the all time greats in all formats of the game.
AB de Villiers, a former member of the South Africa National Cricket Team, has listed his top five all-time One-Day International (ODI) cricketers. The fact that he failed to include Rohit Sharma, the captain of the current India National Cricket Team and one of the top batters in the format, attracted a lot of attention.
MS Dhoni was AB de Villiers’ initial choice. One of the greatest players to ever play the game was the previous captain India. He led the team to victories in the 2011 ICC World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, making him maybe India’s best captain.
In addition to his leadership abilities, MS Dhoni was regarded as the game’s top finisher, particularly in ODIs. In addition to 73 fifties and 10 hundreds, he amassed 10773 runs at an average of over 50 when batting lower in the order.
Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar were named as two of the ODI greats by AB de Villiers
Virat Kohli, one of AB de Villiers’ best friends, was the second name he chose. One could argue that he is the best batter in the current generation’s format. Since he has won numerous games for the club on his own in trying circumstances, his influence is incalculable.
When it comes to ODIs, Virat Kohli is the second-leading run scorer for the Indian National Cricket Team. At an average of more than 58, the right-hander has amassed 14180 runs in the format. In the history of the game, no-batter has scored as many hundreds as he has, with 51 in the ODIs. The team’s former captain has also hit 74 fifties.
In AB de Villiers’ ranking of the greatest five ODI batters of all time, Sachin Tendulkar came in third. The fact that the God of Cricket is still the top run-scorer in the format, despite having retired over ten years ago, says a lot about the contribution he made to the India National Cricket Team in 50-over cricket.
At an average of more than 44, Sachin Tendulkar finished his career with 18426 runs. With 49 tons to his credit, he has the second-highest amount of centuries in the format. Along with his two five-wicket hauls, he took 154 wickets, demonstrating that he was no mug with the ball.
Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis complete AB de Villiers’ top 5 ODI great batters list
The next two names on AB de Villiers’s list are Australia’s Ricky Ponting and fellow Proteas cricketer Jacques Kallis. Ponting scored 13704 ODI runs in his career at an average of 42. The former Australia skipper slammed 30 centuries and 82 fifties in his career.
He also won the ICC ODI World Cup thrice in 1999, 2003, and 2007, with the last two victories coming as the Australia captain.
On the other hand, Kallis is widely regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders to play the game. In addition to his 17 centuries, Jacques Kallis hammered 11579 runs. He proceeded to take 273 wickets with the ball at an economy rate of slightly more than 4.
