Major update on Abhishek Sharma's health ahead of IND vs NAM clash in T20 World Cup 2026

Abhishek Sharma is recovering from a stomach issue.
India’s star opener Abhishek Sharma flopped in the opening game against the USA in the T20 World Cup 2026 on February 7. The left-handed batsman grabbed a golden duck in the encounter, which India eventually won by 29 runs.
After batting in the first innings, Abhishek did not take the field in the second innings. It was later revealed that he was suffering from a stomach issue. On Sunday, the Indian team travelled to Delhi to prepare for their next game against Namibia.
Monday was a rest day for the team, and India head coach Gautam Gambhir hosted a dinner for the team at his home in New Delhi. As per the reports, Abhishek was diagnosed with a stomach infection after his condition deteriorated during the team dinner at Gautam Gambhir’s residence.
He left Gambhir’s home early and was admitted to the hospital on Monday and was there on Tuesday as well. He was under the observation of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s medical team.
Reports suggested that he suffered drastic weight loss due to the stomach infection, leading management to be cautious about risking his fitness. On Tuesday, the Suryakumar Yadav & Co. commenced their training at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
However, Abhishek did not participate in the training session as he was recovering from his stomach issues. On Wednesday morning, news came that he had been discharged from the hospital in Delhi.

According to a report by Pratyush Raj of The Times of India, Abhishek Sharma was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. Also, Indian batter Tilak Varma informed reporters that Abhishek was discharged from the hospital; however, his participation in the Namibia clash is doubtful.
“Abhishek has been discharged today. There is still time to decide on his participation for tomorrow’s game,” Varma was quoted as saying by PTI.
Since the India vs Namibia match takes place on Thursday, Sharma is highly likely to miss the encounter. He was paired with Ishan Kishan as an opener just ahead of the World Cup amid Sanju Samson’s poor form.
If Sharma misses the game, Samson will be the preferred batter to open with Ishan. However, he will be picked as a pure batter in such a scenario.
