Abhishek Sharma is expected to return to the Indian team and travel to Colombo for the Men in Blue’s Group A fixture against Pakistan on Sunday, February 15, according to RevSportz.
Abhishek missed India’s recent T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Namibia on Thursday, February 12, due to a stomach-related illness.
Talking about his illness after losing the toss against Namibia, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav claimed that he could miss a couple of more matches. He said (via The Times of India), “Abhishek is still not fine. He will miss a game or two. I don’t really know.”
Abhishek’s weight may have reduced
On the other hand, reports stated that the 22-year-old had lost weight and had been feeling weakness due to a stomach-related issue. Due to this, many speculated that Abhishek would be sidelined for the match against Pakistan, but the Sunrisers Hyderabad opener is expected to return in time.
Following India‘s 93-run victory over Namibia, spinner Varun Chakravarthy stated that Abhishek Sharma would soon make his return in the World Cup.
Chakravarthy revealed that the 25-year-old was also a part of a brief training session ahead of the Namibia clash. He said, “As far as I have spoken to him, he looks good, he did some practice today also. He told me he is on the way.”
Sanju Samson scored a fiery 22 against Namibia
Sanju Samson opened the innings for India alongside Ishan Kishan against Namibia. Samson scored 22 runs off eight deliveries as the Men in Blue set a target of 210. However, the target proved too steep for Namibia, as their whole team went back to the pavilion at 116.
Abhishek Sharma’s explosive batting could be a crucial addition to the Indian line-up ahead of their game against Pakistan. The 25-year-old is yet to score a run in the tournament as he was dismissed on the first delivery against the USA during India’s opening game on February 7.
