Abhishek Sharma believes that Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill will regain their form soon and win matches for India.
Indian Cricket Team opener Abhishek Sharma has backed Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill amid their poor batting form in T20Is. The left-handed batsman believes that the duo will regain their form soon and win matches for India.
Gill, who shares the opening slot with Abhishek in the shortest format, has struggled to make a mark in T20Is this year. He has played 15 T20Is so far but failed to smack a single half-century. In the third T20I against South Africa, he played a decent knock of 28 runs after getting out for single digits in the first two encounters.
On the other hand, Yadav has also not hit any half-centuries this year, although he has a wonderful record as captain. His struggle has continued in the ongoing series against the Proteas, as he lost his wicket for 12, 5, and 12 across three games. His last fifty came in a T20I clash against Bangladesh in October last year.

Speaking after India’s victory in the third T20I in Dharamsala, Abhishek showed his trust in India’s captain and vice-captain to overcome their batting struggles and win matches for the team soon. He also added that he has a lot of faith in them.
“I tell you one thing straight away that trust me, these two guys are going to win matches at the World Cup and before in other series as well,” the 25-year-old said.
“I have been playing with them for so long, especially with Shubman, so I know where he can win the match, what are the conditions, irrespective of the team. I have a lot of faith in him from the beginning and I hope everyone will see it very soon and everyone will have faith,” he added.
While Gill arrived with a much better performance in Dharamsala with his 28 runs, Yadav witnessed another poor outing. Speaking about his form in the post-match presentation, the India T20I captain acknowledged that he is short of runs but not out of form.
“The thing is, I’ve been batting beautifully in the nets. I’m trying everything that’s in my control. When the runs have to come, they’ll definitely come. But yes, I’m looking for runs, not out of form, but definitely out of runs,” Yadav said.
In 2025, the 35-year-old has played 20 games, hitting 213 runs in 18 innings at a poor average of 14.20 and a strike rate of 125.29. His highest score was unbeaten 47 runs against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025.
Meanwhile, with a seven-wicket victory in the third T20I, the Men in Blue lead the five-match series 2-1. The next encounter will be played on December 17 in Lucknow.
