Watch: Abhishek Tanwar concedes 18 runs off a single delivery in TNPL 2023

Abhishek Tanwar took 11 deliveries to finish his final over against Chepauk in the TNPL 2023 clash.

In a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL 2023) game between Salem Spartans and Chepauk Super Gillies, Abhishek Tanwar created an unique unwanted record with his bowling. Salem Spartans captain Abhishek Tanwar bowled 11 deliveries to complete his final over and gave away 18 runs in the final ball of his spell and also in the Chepauk Super Gillies.

It is an unbelievable record of conceding 18 runs in just one ball, but it has happened in the TNPL. Salem skipper and Right arm pace bowler Abhishek Tanwar lost his rhythm, after the first four balls of his final over. He took 7 balls to deliver his final two legal deliveries and conceded 20 runs in the final ball of the first inning.

Tanwar bowled 4 no-balls in the final over

Tanwar’s rhythm looked fine in the first four balls of the 20th over and conceded 6 runs in the first 4 balls. Then he overstepped in the 5th ball but recovered well in the next one. But right after the 5th one, Tanwar’s control vanished, and bowled 3 consecutive no-balls, overstepping twice and once above the waist. Tanwar tried to change his line but it also went wide down the leg side. In the meanwhile CSG batter Sanjay Yadav had scored 8 runs with a six and 2 runs with the bat with 4 extras. Tanwar finally got control back and delivered a legal delivery after 3 no-balls and a wide but Sanjay Yadav took no time in sending the ball back over mid-wicket for a six.

Abhishek Tanwar conceded 18 runs in the final ball and a total of 26 runs in the final over. Chepauk Super Gillies scored 217 runs in 20 overs with the help of Pradosh Paul’s 88 runs in 55 balls with 12 fours and a six. Chasing 218, Salem Spartans could only score 165 runs and lost 9 wickets. They were under pressure of a big total and kept losing their wickets at regular intervals. In the post-match presentation, Salem captain Abhishek Tanwar said, “I have to take the blame for the last over, four no-balls being a senior bowler was disappointing. The wind did not help as it played a huge role”
