Sachin Tendulkar holds the record of having played 6 ODI World Cup events for India.

Team India did script glory when they hosted the ICC Cricket World Cup last time on their soil. India along with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka hosted World Cup 2011, where they came out with the most coveted trophy in cricket in their hands. The team under MS Dhoni won the Championship. When we look at the current setup, only one constant name gets from the 2011 World Cup to the upcoming 2023 World Cup. India’s most consistent performer in world cricket, Virat Kohli has been part of every World Cup event since he made his debut in ODI cricket in 2008.

Apart from Virat Kohli, no other young name from 2011 could carry on for long. Most of the possible members from the current World Cup squad will be getting their first-ever experience in the mega event. There are only 4 players in the current squad for contention in the World Cup 2023 who have experience in two or more World Cup events. Let’s have a look at those big names in the current Indian cricket setup who have played two or more Cricket World Cup tournaments.

Here are the active Indian cricketers who have played most ICC Cricket World Cups:

4. Ravindra Jadeja (2015 and 2019)

All-rounder Jadeja broke into the picture just before the World Cup 2011 but was not included in the 2011 team due to his inexperience in International cricket. After that Ravindra Jadeja became an integral part of the team. Jadeja almost took India to the Final of the World Cup 2019 with his blistering knock of 77 runs in the semi-final against New Zealand. Ravindra Jadeja has played 10 games in both editions and scored 134 runs in 6 innings and picked up 11 wickets in the tournament’s history.

3. Mohammed Shami (2015 and 2019)

Mohammed Shami has been a crucial figure for Team India in major events like World Cup and World Test Championships. Shami has been India’s most prolific wicket-taking bowler in the last two World Cups. In two World Cups, he played 11 matches and picked 31 wickets with a hat-trick against Afghanistan in the previous edition. Shami will play a crucial role in the Indian team in the upcoming World Cup 2023 as well.

2. Rohit Sharma (2015 and 2019)

The current Indian captain was in contention for the 2011 World Cup as well but his poor show with bat in South Africa against Dale Steyn made him sit outside and watch his teammates lift the World Cup 2011 trophy. Rohit then made a solid comeback in the ODI team and fixed his place as an opener. Rohit played in the next two events where team India were knocked down in the semifinals. He has got a wonderful record in this event as he has scored 6 centuries in 17 innings in the World Cup matches and 5 of them came in the 2019 edition. Rohit has scored 978 runs in the World Cup.

1. Virat Kohli (2011, 2015, and 2019)

Captain of India in the 2019 World Cup, Virat Kohli is the only active Indian player who was part of the World Cup-winning setup in 2011. Virat Kohli had a crucial partnership with opener Gautam Gambhir in the 2011 final against Sri Lanka and scored 38 runs. In his three World Cup campaigns from 2011 to 2019, Kohli played 26 games and scored 1030 runs at an average of 46.81 with 2 centuries and 6 half-centuries. Virat captained the Indian team in the 2019 World Cup where they lost in the semi-final against New Zealand.
