Afghanistan Cricket Team announce 16-men squad for three-match ODI series against Pakistan

Afghanistan Cricket Team will play a 3-match ODI series against Pakistan in Sri Lanka before the Asia Cup 2023.

Afghanistan Cricket Team announced a 16-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan in Sri Lanka. Afghanistan Cricket Team got the direct ticket for the World Cup 2023 and will be playing against Pakistan as a preparatory tour in a three-match ODI series.

Afghanistan have included Noor Ahmed indicating they might be looking to strengthen their spin bowling attack for the World Cup 2023. Playing in Indian conditions Afghanistan can produce a few upsets against key teams. Hashmatullah Shahidi has been given the role of skipper with Mohammed Nabi, Ibrahim, and Najibullah Zadran in the team. 

Rashid Khan will be leading the spin bowling attack along with Noor Ahmed, and Mohammed Nabi in the squad. Noor Ahmed played 13 games for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 and picked up 16 wickets. Noor troubled most of the batters he bowled to.

Soon after the IPL 2023, he made a return to the Afghanistan ODI squad against Sri Lanka. The experience in the BBL, Hundred, and PSL helped him grow as a big match-winner at just 18 years of age. Afghanistan will be playing against Pakistan and then take part in Asia Cup 2023. They are placed in a tough Group along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. 

Afghanistan Chief Selector Asadullah Khan said, “Our whole concentration is to prepare the team for the upcoming two big events of Asia Cup and the World Cup 2023. This three-match ODI series against Pakistan provides us with a wonderful opportunity to prepare the team for the forthcoming two events. The Preparations for the Pakistan series are progressing well, the players have recently performed well in the Kabul camp, which was supervised by the ACB’s high-performance centre staff.”

The first two ODI between Afghanistan Cricket Team and Pakistan will be played on 22nd August and 24th August at Hambantota. The final ODI will be played at R Premadasa Stadium on 26th August.
