Afghanistan rope in Pakistan legend Younis Khan as mentor for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will mark Afghanistan’s first appearance in the tournament.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 (ICC CT 2025) will mark the tournament’s return after eight years, with the last edition played in 2017 in England.
The Afghanistan Cricket Team have continued their rise in international cricket and will participate in the tournament for the first time.
The tournament features eight teams divided into two groups – Group A and Group B. The ninth edition of the competition will be held across venues in Pakistan and Dubai, featuring a total of 15 matches.
Afghanistan is placed in Group B alongside England, Australia, and South Africa. They will begin their campaign against South Africa in Karachi on February 21.
Afghanistan have made a key addition to their dressing room by bringing in a Pakistan legend as their mentor for the competition.

According to Cricbuzz, former Pakistan middle-order batsman Younis Khan has been appointed as the mentor of the Afghanistan Cricket Team for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
“ACB has assigned former experienced top order Pakistani player Younis Khan as Mentor for Champions Trophy 2025. He (Younis) will join the team before the event starts in Pakistan,” Sayeed Naseem Sadat, the spokesman of ACB, confirmed to Cricbuzz on Wednesday.
Younis previously worked with Afghanistan as their batting coach in 2022.
His playing career includes 10,099 runs in 118 tests, including a highest score of 313. He also led Pakistan to their first T20 World Cup title in 2009 and personally achieved the No. 1 ranking in the ICC test batting charts.
Having defeated cricketing giants like Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, and England in the last two ICC tournaments, Afghanistan will aim to go all the way this year.
