Karun Nair has played six test matches for India.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the India squad for the upcoming test series against England on Saturday, May 24. The BCCI has named an 18-member squad for the England test series. Karun Nair has made a comeback to the test team after a long gap.
Shubman Gill has been named as the new test skipper after Rohit Sharma pulled the curtains down on his test career earlier this month. Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has been named as the new vice-captain of the side.
Indian Cricket Team will tour England next month for a five-match test series. The series will commence with the opening game on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. The fifth test will be played at the Kennington Oval in London from July 31 to August 4. After the retirement of Sharma and Virat Kohli, a young squad under Gill will tackle the Englishmen in the series.
Karun Nair returns to India test squad after eight years
Interestingly, Karun Nair has returned to India’s test squad after eight years. The right-handed batsman made his test debut for India in November 2016 during a test series against England. He also showed a wonderful form in his debut series and slammed an unbeaten triple century.
Later, he was also picked for the home series against Australia in March 2017. However, he struggled to come up with an impressive show, hitting 54 runs across four innings. It was his last test series for India. Shockingly, even after his brilliant triple century, Nair was overlooked by selectors during the last eight years.
Nair played a huge role in driving Vidarbha to the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 title. He slammed a half-century and a century in the final and helped Vidarbha outplay Kerala in the match. He also finished as the second-highest run-scorer for Vidarbha with 863 runs in 16 innings. Overall, he was the fourth-highest run-scorer of the tournament.
The 33-year-old is set to restart his journey in the longest format. So far, Nair has played six tests for India. He has mustered 374 runs at an average of 62.33 with one triple century. He has also played two ODIs for India.
