England’s last test win on Australian soil came back in January 2011.

With their backs against the wall, England produced a remarkable result at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, to produce a victory for the ages, against arch rivals Australia.

The contest began well for the visitors, mainly due to Josh Tongue’s exploits with the ball, which helped England bowl out Australia for 152. However, the visitors failed to drive home the advantage, as Mitchell Starc, Scott Boland and Michael Neser combined to bundle out England for 110 runs.

Australia ended the opening day, with a significant advantage, which has been the case for most of this series. However, things reversed on day two, as a stunning display of fast bowling made life very difficult for the Aussie batters.

Brydon Carse led from the front with a 4-fer, along with captain Ben Stokes, who chipped in with a three-fer, to bowl out the home team for 132.

Chasing 175, England began with a flurry of strokes. Both openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett played quick cameos, but Jacob Bethell’s splendid knock of 40 powered England to a first win on Australian soil after 5468 days.
