Pakistan and India are placed in Group A in T20 World Cup 2026.

Uncertainty still mounts over the India vs Pakistan group clash in T20 World Cup 2026. Both teams are placed in Group A in the tournament and are scheduled to clash on February 15 at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

However, Pakistan government has denied permission to their players to play against India in the first round. Although the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is yet to give an official confirmation to the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the matter, reports suggest that they are on the same page as that of their government.

USA, Namibia, and Netherlands are the other three teams in Group A. Ahead of the clash against India, the Salman Agha & Co. will face Netherlands on February 7 and USA on February 10. On the other hand, the Men-in-Blue will square off with USA ahead of their encounter against their arch-rivals on February 15.

Since India and Pakistan are the strong teams in their pool, the latter are expected to move into the next round despite skipping their game against the former. However, both sides can meet each other in the semi-finals and final later. This has kept many confused as to what will happen if both teams reach the knockout stage.

Ahead of the tournament, Pakistan captain Agha was asked about his team’s plans if they have a possible face-off with India in the semi-final or final of the T20 World Cup 2026. Responding to the same, Agha said that they will follow government’s decision in such a scenario.

“The India game is not in our control. It was the government’s decision, and again, if we have to play them in the semi-final or the final, we have to go back to them and act on their advice. It’s the government’s decision, and we respect that, and whatever they are going to say, we’ll do it,” he said.

The right-handed batsman also added that they are excited for the other three games in the first round.

“We are playing three other games, and we are very excited about that. Yeah, we lost to the USA in the last World Cup, but that’s history now. It’s a new World Cup, a new team, and a new combination, and we are very excited about that,” he further added.

Meanwhile, Pakistan are scheduled to play all of their games in Sri Lanka as they have refused to travel to India for the tournament. If they reach the semi-finals or final, then those games will also be played in Colombo.
